Horton wines are very good, especially the Norton if you like strong reds.  Naked Mountain's Raptor Red is good but more difficult to find outside of the winery itself (which is absolutely beautiful). Pearmund and Chrysallis make nice whites.  Aspen Dale has some nice wines as well.

I’m sure these are very good but they’re lacking that certain something. Oh I know, the Trump label. ;)

It probably has more to do with irking the recipient.

Au contraire, my brother and cousin are true believers and since they both live in Annapolis may not have the easy access to these particular premium wines like those of us in the Peoples Commonwealth of Virginia.

I'm gonna guess that the bottle is empty when you uncork it. :)

I honestly don't think so. I think DCFan is, as he describes his kin, a true believer. I have always admired faith, as I have none of my own.

Welcome to the adult side. We have most of the good stuff, but you're usually too tired to enjoy it.

Might I suggest Evan Williams bottled in bond (around $15), Old Grand Dad bottled in bond or Wild Turkey 101 (both around $25). They are readily available in any liquor store in the country and are excellent sippers (on the rocks). Bottled in bond is 100 proof and is right around my sweet spot.

I'm wondering if you read the same article I did about the best daily candidates for bourbon? If not, you're pretty much straight up in agreement with at least one expert.

I would splurge a bit and get the Woodford Reserve. You can get it for like 30 a bottle.

It was a Wofford beating UNC twice in the last 3 years joke. :)

Saw a commemorative Nats World Series bottle of wine at Wegmans this morning for $49.99.  That's a hard pass.

Fifteen Virginia ABC stores (with more possibly to come) to start offering curbside pick-up for online orders : https://wtop.com/virginia/2020/05/15-abc-stores-offering-curbside-pickup-in-northern-virginia/

The adult-beverage supply has been remarkably unaffected by CoronaExtraVirus, at least in my neighbourhood. Our ABC store is well stocked and the Giant never seems to run out of beer or wine. (You'd think they'd be having difficulty staying stocked, with all the bars and restaurants closed.)

I've been getting better wine and beer than usual- I just call our beer/wine shop give them loose parameters and price guides and let them pick- an hour later, I pull up, they put it in my trunk and I'm good to go. They tend to have better taste than me and to know their stock well, so it's better than what I'd pick out myself

If you're willing to branch out into something absurd, yet actually tasty, on the wine front, then I'll suggest something I've always got a bottle of now that I live in the southwest. Hatch green (and red) chilis are actually made into wine every year during harvest season.

A bunch of captain Lawrence beer, I like it all a lot.  Riot of the Crows by timber ales is my new favorite beer- I probably would have picked out either on a shelf. For wine random burgundies- all have been really good

Picked up a bottle of mularkey’s heritage whiskey. It’s an Irish-style whiskey brewed in Virginia. So far so good.

https://murlarkey.com/product/heritage-whiskey/

I used their old fashioned mix that’s a bit too sweet for me but very tasty.

While down visiting the mom in Daytona I went into the Publix liquor store and lo and behold there were 6 bottles of Buffalo Trace sitting on the shelf.  :az:  I picked one up for $27.99.  All those years living in Virginia and their ABC stores and now NC with the same, I marvel at states that allow grocery stores to sell liquor.

Not just states but countries too - in Britain you can get distilled spirits at grocery stores (not just big supermarkets but smaller convenience stores like Tesco Metro).

I bought a bottle of vodka in a Walgreens in downtown Baltimore...maybe that's what people there use to brush their teeth?
