Sounds like the perfect excuse to pick up some Maker's 46 - To be enjoyed only when we win a game, this postseason.

Oddly, I've never tried 46.  I like the regular Maker's just fine, hard to complain about the wheated mashbill done so well and affordably.

so I'm watching the Jim Beam commercial that's about rebuilding the distillery after prohibition.  Says it took 120 days, then it shows the crew drinking.  how long is Jim Beam or a basic bourbon aged? Is the stuff that comes out right away even drinkable?

Drinkable? Sure. Good? Not really. And Tom, re the 46, sounds like it's Maker's, but more. Stronger notes of wheat and cherry.

When copper fox was getting started they were selling un/barley aged stuff for cash flow while the other stuff aged. It was basically an overpriced swill, but they were pretty straightforward with what you were buying

Same with the Mount Vernon gift shop which sells a whiskey made using George's secret family recipe.  They sell an unaged version (when I was there a few years ago it was $99) and it's as clear as water.  It's aging in charred oak barrels which gives whiskey its coloring.  They also sell an aged version for an unknown price.  Being there when either version is in stock is very hit and miss.

Jim Beam is aged a minimum of 4 years per wiki.

For us in VA it amounts to an extra $8 which gets you an estimated 2-3 months additional aging.  But it's in French oak staves! I've had it and it's delicious.  :)

My homemade Kahlua only requires 1 month to age

I took advantage of the 20% off sale.  Printed a couple of coupons and visited a couple of stores.  Picked up a bottle of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel at my final stop.  Will open it on Tuesday.

This appears to have been the correct strategy.

Redbreast is amazing.  But a heavy dose of cipro might be better if one lived in Saudi Arabia:

I post on a bourbon board that TomTerp steered me to a few years ago, Straightbourbon.com. Anyway it’s run by a guy who lives in Napa. He advised us that because of the rolling blackouts in California due to the fires his server would also be affected. It’s now down.

Redbreast 12 Cask Strength doesn't suck either.

Went Christmas shopping at the ABC this morning. They carry a limited selection of Va wines so I bought 3 bottles of Trump wine to dole out to my brother and cousin who I'll see on Christmas eve.

Horton wines are very good, especially the Norton if you like strong reds.  Naked Mountain's Raptor Red is good but more difficult to find outside of the winery itself (which is absolutely beautiful). Pearmund and Chrysallis make nice whites.  Aspen Dale has some nice wines as well.
