That injury to Howard looked pretty bad. He could be out for a while. :?

Great comeback by the Wizards. Gotta keep it up. Singleton is a pretty damn good offensive player.

In case you have not seen this (information purposes)-from Robert Pollin to all Season Planholders:
    "  Dear (Name withheld):"
"Let’s start with the most important thing I want to say: everyone in this organization deeply appreciates all your support. We all share something huge in common—a love for basketball, a love for the Wizards, and a strong, if not fanatical desire, to see the Wizards win every game and compete for a championship. Because you share these feelings with us, you are the people, more than anyone else, who keep us motivated to always do our best and put a winning basketball team on the floor."

You all know that we made some major moves right before this past Thursday’s trade deadline. It was very painful to give up Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, DeShawn Stevenson, and Dominic McGuire. They have all been important parts of our organization for many years, and have made great contributions to our team and community. "

But the moves we made now give the team some excellent new players, and most importantly, tremendous flexibility in moving forward to create a winning team. We now have the ability to make some exciting moves in next summer’s free agent market.

I want to be clear that we have the very same goal today that we had at the beginning of the season—to build a championship contender that all of you, our best and most cherished supporters, can fall madly in love with.    But it had become clear over the past couple of months that achieving this goal will have to take a bit longer than we had thought when the season began in October.

The last few months have obviously been extremely difficult for all of us, including of course myself. When the season started, we considered our team a serious contender for a title. Almost every preseason poll I read—and believe, I read just about all of them—placed the Wizards in the top four in the East. That makes you a contender. These same polls unanimously chose the Wizards as being poised to make the biggest improvement from last season.

The logic behind all these polls was impeccable: we were bringing back Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood from injuries, we had acquired two excellent players in Randy Foye and Mike Miller, and we had hired one of the most successful and highly-regarded NBA coaches around in Flip Saunders. Last summer, my father instructed Ernie Grunfeld to “build me another championship team.” Coming into the season, I think it is fair to say that Ernie did a great job in making this a feasible goal.

Alas, none of it was meant to be. Of course, my wonderful father is no longer with us. That is a loss beyond anything to do with basketball. Focusing on the Wizards, for lots of reasons, the team we started the season with just never meshed. We began with significant injuries to Antawn Jamison and then Mike Miller. We were losing too many close games. And then there was the infamous gun incident, which resulted in us losing our number one star player, Gilbert Arenas, for yet another season.

Sometimes reality bites. But you still have to face it head on, even as you might wish to look away.   So, in facing reality straight on, it became clear to us that the team needed a fresh start. We all will greatly miss Antawn, Caron, Brendan, DeShawn, and Dominic. But a fresh start really means a fresh start.

This team is going to come back quickly. Mark my words—it is going to happen. Thanks for continuing to support the Wizards and helping the team we love flourish again.

With deepest appreciation once again,
Robert Pollin
Chief Executive Officer
Washington Sports and Entertainment "

 It's a new day.

I wonder how many teams are telling their fans the same thing? There are really only a few who are worth flushing your whole team down the toilette for. What letter will they send out if Wade, Bosh and Lebron end up somewhere else? Sorry, we blew up the team for nothing, hopefully we'll be decent by 2013, but the logic was impeccable?

Howard is out for the year with a torn ACL. He may have played his last game with the wizards, a very short one. In other news former Wizard Larry Hughes got waived by the Wizards :? I hope he gets his game back he is one of my fav. players espically when him and Arenas ran the league back in 06.

For instance, let's say you root for the Wizards like my buddy House. Over the last two years, House watched his team overpay Arenas ($111 million; nobody else could have offered more than $85 million at the time) and Antawn Jamison (a $41 million extension for someone about to reach his mid-30s) in a bizarre attempt to keep together the nucleus of a non-contender. Those contracts forced the Wiz to package the No. 5 pick in the 2009 draft, along with a couple of lousy contracts, for immediate help (Randy Foye and Mike Miller). When that move backfired and Arenas went child actor on us, the team called an audible and dealt three of its four best players (Jamison, Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood) for expiring contracts and the No. 30 pick in the 2010 draft.

Three unintentionally funny outcomes here. First, Wizards GM Ernie Grunfeld was the one who overpaid everybody, then had to sacrifice Butler and a 2009 lottery pick just to undo his own horrendous mistakes. Basically, he created the same cap space that could have been attained two summers ago, only Washington fans lost a lottery pick in the process. Did he get fired for this? Of course not.

Second, the Wizards will have a ton of cap space this summer, only this summer's top free agents won't be saying, "Man, I'd love to play on a young team that's built around Gilbert Arenas." So it's a flawed business plan coming out of the gate. They shouldn't even mention the word "cap space" to their fans again. It's like promising your kids an ice cream at the end of a long drive when you know there's nothing in the fridge.

Third, they actually tried to sell their fans that one benefit of the Jamison trade was dipping the Wizards under the luxury tax threshold. As House hissed afterwards, "What the [bleep] do I care if the Wiz aren't paying the tax? How does that affect me? Does that mean they're lowering ticket prices for the rest of the year then?"

the saving grace is that the Timberwolves used the #5 pick on Ricky Rubio (then they screwed up again taking Johnny Flynn at #6.

The thing you'll want to ignore is that Stephan Curry was still available in that slot.

I have to bite the bullet and go to the damn game Tuesday. So I can't watch 2 games in one week anyway.

Yeah, I went there. Big whoop. Wanna fight about it?

That wasn't too bad.  They collapsed and lost but it's far better than the Redskins do on national television!

God forbid the Nats fanbase ever fall to that pathetic level. We really had fun at the game, but the crowd got most excited for the "Pick which Verizon Center Nick Young is in game." On the metro, you could not tell there was even a game.

It was nothing like this. There were like 1500 people, and a considerable number of Rockets fans (only game in DC this year). Half the concessions were closed. No lines. No one clapping even. This could be the Nats future, but it won't be.

The nats have been inept in the past, but most people thought they were at least trying and a certain number of people will always show up to watch baseball on a summer day. The Wizards basically told their fans we're going to suck for this year, and unless we get really lucky and convience one of three guys to come here next year, we'll suck into the future while at the same time trying to get every last penny out of a sale of the team to a popular would-be owner (as is their right), fans are going to react to that- I'm actually surpised so many people even bothered to show.

It usually is that way at mid-week matches - whole sections empty, hardly any concessions open, and an atmosphere reminiscent of mid-week Caps matches against Atlanta or Tampa Bay back in the first couple of post-lock-out seasons. The only time the place really gets jumping at Wizards matchnights, ever since the team stopped going to the playoffs, is at weekends or whenever some big-drawing opponent (Lakers, Celtics et al) is visiting.

Expect even more of a chamber-music-recital ambience tomorrow night against the Hawks.

I've actually enjoyed watching Blatche play the last couple of weeks. I'm not expecting wins, but I do want to see the guys who will be around for a while do well.

I'll have to say that overall there has been a lot more effort since the firesale (and Blatche has indeed raised his game considerably) - the matches are for the most part watchable and there's less of a 'let's-just-mail-this-in-and-get-this-blasted-season-over-with' showing on the court, with notable exceptions like that schooling they got from the Bucks this past Friday. But there is still the matter of being beaten by better teams, especially with playoff berths starting to coalesce - and unfortunately 'better teams' at this writing includes just about the entire rest of the NBA (as we witnessed with that heart-breaker loss at Boston this past Sunday after they had led most of the way).

Andray Blatche you are such a douchebag.

First he complains about being underpaid despite being a pretty crappy player for most of the last several seasons here. A 10-15 game stretch doesn't change crap. Now he sucks again and to boot he won't listen to the coaches or get back on defense.

Quote
"In my 15 years, I've never been more disappointed with a player," -Flip Saunders. Blatche apparently stopped getting back on defense, Was approached by Flip on the bench and assistants. Didn't listen. Didn't want to play.

Quote
Andray Blatche, removed from the game in 1st qtr. Saunders tried to talk to him about getting back on 'D. Blatche didn't want to hear it....

Quote
Saunders on Blatche: "He can be pissed at me but you never leave your teammates hanging out to dry like that. No matter what. Uncalled for."
