I had won Presidents Club Tickets for this game. My friend Katy got to attend with me. She hadn't been to too many baseball games before, so as my father did with me, I answered every question she had about the game. What follows is my account. Its kind of long winded! If you heard someone screaming in the background, that was ME!
Boy is my throat sore. Did you watch the game? If you did, you must have heard me! The players could hear me, it was soooo cool!
My friend Katy went with me. She used to work with me. She was running a tad late so she and I didn’t meet up until 6:30. You enter the Restaurant. All the food is free by the way. You could order off the menu or take advantage of a wonderful buffet. We took advantage of the buffet which consisted of all kinds of cheeses and antipasta. Main courses were Salmon medallions, fresh cut prime rib, fresh cut roasted pork, garlic mashed potatoes (how do you spell potato again? I’ll have to ask George Sr.’s vice president). Great salads too. For dessert, strawberry cobbler, chocolate fudge cake, berry parfaits (with fresh berries), and some kind of chocolate chip blondie type of cookie with coconut.
With all this good food, we didn’t hit our seats until the 3rd inning. Needless to say, I didn’t keep score tonight to take in the atmosphere. I was behind the net and a little to the third base side of home plate. Some soldiers were in front of us and some METS FANS in back of us. They were relatively good METS fans. They weren’t any more obnoxious than I was. I would root for a strike out, they would root for a hit. Alls fair and we had a friendly competition going on rooting for our teams. They rooted in Spanish at the similar players on the Mets.
Some of you may recall how a couple of years ago, one of the Mets pitchers or something compared our team to a girl’s softball team. I didn’t appreciate the comment at the time because I’ve seen professional softball players. Jennie Finch could strike out a MLB player any day of the week. Well, I think that pitcher was Figuroa who was pitching tonight. So I yelled how they play like a bunch of girl softball players real loud. Castillo was on deck, and I swear, although I wish I had captured a picture of it, HE GLARED AT ME!!! OOOHHH. I was in heaven! I now realized that yes, indeed, I was close enough to be heard! What I normally yell from 308 is now being heard by the players and such from only 4 rows behind them!! This of course put me in rare form, inventing new cheers for our guys and jeers for the Mets. One group in the section to the left of me, broke out with Happy Birthday to you for Ryan Zimmerman. I don’t think he got a hit all night!! At one point I did an imitation of Paul McCartney’s “TODAY IS YOUR BIRTHDAY…. .HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!” He walked after that point. Oh well, I tried. For Adam I did my Git er Dunn and up and At’em Adam! Some people around me liked that one! When David Wright came up, I yelled, HE’S NOT RIGHT, HE’S WRONG! WRONG WRONG WRONG! One kind of unfortunate thing was Katy had just gotten up to use the restroom, when Morse hit his Home run! I kidded with her to get up more often! LOL. At one point, one of the Mets fans behind me didn’t like a strike call. I yelled, yeah 1 bad strike call, one bad call by the umpire calling one of our guys out; I CONSIDER IT ABOUT EVEN! Even they laughed! It was Motown Monday! That meant between innings, they played old Motown tunes which Katy and I gloriously rocked to.
To cap the night, WE WON! ANOTHER CURLY W was in the books! Katy and I were so busy getting pictures, we didn’t get to see the press conference afterwards. Oh well, A GREAT NIGHT WAS HAD BY ONE AND ALL. One I will never forget for a long time! You know what? I have to root all over again tonight! Oh lord, will I have enough voice for my regular seat in the upper deck.
I went to sleep in front of the TV. I’m really ticked that they played some football game after midnight on MASN! I really wanted to see if I was seen or heard! Oh well.
Got to get some more sleep.
Later NATS FANS!
