That mustache is all sorts of lame. As for calling for his head, I'd like to know if the pitcher said anything before I'd be critical of the Kid.

Thats what I want to know as well.

You can tell by his reaction after crossing the plate, it was part of a larger issue.

If he was the one just being a dick, he wouldn't blown the kiss, and not thought anything of it.

It seems to me like there was some issues before that happened, and he did it in retaliation. Then crossing the plate he turns to see what the reaction is.

It's easy to say he should be above this and more mature, and I agree. However, he's got other kids chomping at the bit to get after him, and Im sure running their mouths in the process. He's got a target on his back.

I wasn't to keen on the watching the ball, slow start on the home run trot.  Seems the other team got under his skin.

Meh.  Harper's talent far exceeds his maturity.  I honestly think he's probably just a douchebag, and he may not grow out of it by the time he gets to the majors, if ever.  At the same time, while I'd obviously prefer Harper to be both brilliantly talented and humble, like Stras, as long as he's playing for my team I'll accept his being arrogant and douchey like ARod.

The problem is that Harper's antics are just as likely to get a teammate plunked. He can be arrogant but there are consequences to his actions that can impact more than just his own well-being

Which is why it's probably a good idea to keep him down in the minors for awhile. Get him to Harrisburg and then if he dominates there, get him to Syracuse. I think that's where he may learn the most humility. Playing with guys who are often looking for one last shot at the show might just calm him down a little. All in all however, I'd be much more concerned if he were doing this at 22 or so as opposed to 18.

He's still young he'll grow out of it. They lost and Greensboro is now only 1 game back in the schedule.
He needs some help growing out of it. I love him as a hitter, and he's clearly super talented. BUt he needs to dial it down. He stood there and watched that one for a few seconds. If I'm the Hagerstown Manager (Daubach), he's in my office after the game and next stunt like that, I pull him on the spot.

That said, making a smooch face at the pitcher is classic.

This is the same team that hit him last night in his first AB, and reports were that it was intentional.

he finished 2-4, with the HR.

I still don't know if it was intentional or not, I actually doubt it, but at the same time, seeing Harper's response toward the pitcher, I'm losing some doubt.

Granted his response was over-the-top, but they started it, so I'm not sure how you can make that connection

Huh? I'm saying I don't know that the HBP vs Harper was intentional or not, but in seeing his reaction after having hit the homer, I'm not so sure.

Now I'm even less clear on what it is you're saying   It sounded like you were saying that Harper's reaction made you more sure that the earlier HBP was intentional.  Perhaps I misunderstood.

He needs to grow thicker skin and grow up a bit. I grew up a ton from 18 to the age of 21. It's not that big a deal but the media is going to be all over this. Also, other teams are going to try even harder to get under his skin. Rizzo needs to give him a call and let him know that his composure is something he needs to work on in order to get promoted.

Field conditions

the field looked a lot better last night, and the clubhouse expansion appears to be about done.   I think it's more that it's not that big a jump to go from low-A to high-A and they think moving to AA is better for his progression.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I was at the Suns game on Sunday. I didn't get the impression that he was hit intentionally. You have a young A ball pitcher trying to work hitters inside, people are going to get hit. But having seen Harper's reaction to the homer, I'm wondering if perhaps it may have been intentional. It's hard to tell all things considered.

Totally agree with this.  He needs to develop a thicker skin, because other teams see it's easy to annoy and distract him and they obviously are doing a lot of chirping.

He's not the only one to stop and watch a home run.  We've had guys on the nats do that this year, hell everytime that loser ryan howard hits a long fly (even flyouts) he stops and watches.

The other stuff won't fly in the bigs though.

His home run trot even warranted a mention from Larry Granillo at BP, who's the guy who is measuring and blogging about home run trot times, and who made prominent mention of Ramos' slow trot vs. the D-Backs.

Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals uber-prospect, hit his 14th home run of the season last night for the Hagerstown Suns. Apparently he appreciated the opposing pitcher's role in the home run so much that he blew him kisses as he approached home plate. That's all that was, right? Appreciation?

Sadly, the video is edited in such a way that I can't get a tater trot time for Mr. Harper and his mustache. I can say that it took Harper over four seconds before he stopped watching the home run and began jogging. Even the worst offenders in the big leagues rarely stare a ball down that long. My guess is that this trot ended up in the 24- to 25-second range (he moved pretty fast once he started moving).

The real question is this: which is the bigger star of this video, Harper's blown kisses or that mustache? It's closer than you think.

One thing we haven't considered was that maybe  Harper thought the pitcher was really cute.

Maybe we could trade for the Nyjer Morgan guy who's tearing it up (.344 /.391 /.563 ) for the Brewers.  He could be our answer at leadoff / CF, and he's a little bit chippy from time to time.
