Luck had nothing to do with it.  They had no business sending Nieves on that shallow hit.  He's faster than Bard but he's still slow.

What exactly is your point?  The pitcher just got a hit.  Top of the lineup coming up with runners on the corners.  Why would you send a slow runner on a weak hit?

only a good throw from Victorino would have had him out. He had to make a good play. 7 times out of 10 that throw sails wide or too far.

it led the catcher right down the third baseline which made it even more convenient for the catcher.
