Guzman for Jose Mijares and Steven Tolleson would work for me.

Guzman for salary relief would be fine with me. Ship him off now and free up over $10 million you can offer O-Hud in the offseason (Yes, he's a second baseman. So is Guzman at this point). Meanwhile, call up Ian Desmond and make him the starter at short for the rest of the season.

again for who and who becomes the regular shortstop? gonzalez has been pathetically terrible since the all-star break.

i would love for them to bring up desmond and insert him as the everyday shortstop and 7-hole hitter, but we won't do that, seeing how we just promoted him to AAA.

i don't know how many suitors are looking @ guz right now.

Desmond has been bad defensively in Cuse but his BA and OBP are through the roof.

He has strong arm, but he's pretty bad fielder on the overall. If he makes it to the majors, he probably won't be a SS.

yep. I think we could see him in the Majors next month since he is on the 40-man. I wish they moved him to 2B but they haven't so obviously they think he can still make it at SS. He has been playing there all year.

He played CF for like a few innings in a blowout like a week ago.

Who gives a freaking crap? This season stopped being relevant for this organization eons ago. We're punting on this season. It's time to unload any dead weight and get rid of anyone we can and get whatever we can get in the meantime.

We could play Austin Kearns at SS for all I care, but there's no sense in keeping a somewhat tradeable player whose decline has started and is set to get steeper.

who is going to play short?

and who wants guzman at this point.

Hopefully, someone will look at Felipe Lopez and what he did when he left Washington, look at Guz and our record, and say "he's just lost his focus a bit because he plays for a lousy team, but if he comes to a pennant race, we'll get the all star back." It's a hope. That, and paying a Lugo / Wilson premium, and maybe you can get something. Perhaps a bigger problem is finding a team. I like the thought of him to Minnesota. They have Punto who can be the defensive replacement. they could even maybe try him at 3d if Crede can't take the field.

As for who plays SS for us? I really don't care too much at this point, sorry to say. I'd prefer a $400K veteran who has a decent glove (I don't care about the bat) if we are unwilling to turn it over to Alberto Anderson, or whatever the name is of the glove guy who we go gaga over because he has 2 months of decent hitting.

The first couple months of the season, this guy drove me crazy. Is it just me, or is he playing much better defense the past several weeks? I haven't seen every inning, but I've seen a lot, and I don't remember his last error.

Oh for Pete's sake - Lopez didn't run out a play this past weekend and screwed up the inning for the Brewers. The Nats are much better without Lopez.

I saw Lopez dog it too. I'm glad he's gone if for no other reason than his attitude.

I think we'll look back at this and see failing to move Guzman as Rizzo's worst, and possibly sole, mistake of his first season.

How about Gonzales,Belliard, and Kearns? Like they are going to get us to a championship or League win

The Guzman dilemma is only a small part of the equation. There is plenty of clean-up left to do......

Exactly.Guzman's age,salary and decreased range make him less than attractive for any team. On the other hand, the Nats don't have anybody that looks like they are ready to push him out of the starting role.

Look, I think Felipe's a dog, too, but he played well last year after the he left here and he was good enough for someone to trade for him this year. How many times have you heard of a guy needing "a change of scenery?" It's one of the mandatory sports writer cliches whether its true or not. Back in July, when people were saying Guz is cold and could not be traded, I was saying that someone might think that way. For Pete's sake. Also, as far as Felipe dogging it, anyone surprised he's back to a dog when his team is out of contention?

How are those guys Rizzo's mistake? they all predated his tenure as GM. What do you mean?
