sportsfan said he sees Detwiler as a potential 2 or 3.

I think that is reasonable. Pitchers don't have their stuff working about 1 out of every 4 appearances. Part of the learning process is to know how to adjust on those off nights. He clearly was not on tonight. But the game was only 3-1 when he left in the 6th. We should be happy to be in that position when a pitcher has an off night. He just needs to get more experience.

Ass-cyst has to be the best pitcher in the big leagues working with a ten run deficit.   :?

Experience.

I don't see him any better than a 4 a big MAYBE that he develops into a 3.

I don't see Detwiler as more than a 5-inning pitcher and that's not a starter, period.

It's much too early to judge Detwiler.  THis time last year, he looked like a complete bust.  Then, he found his equalibrium and began to have a bit of success, but too soon he was pressed into service at a level way above his previous experience.  He needs to go back down, but I expect him to come back next season as a solid middle rotation guy.  Yeah, 3-4  is likely, but I wouldn't foreclose the possibility of #2.  Small chance, but a chance.

worst loss of the year?

spider, det wasn't great tonight, but he's the same pitcher that should've beaten the o's last time around and should've gotten the w over the blue jays last weekend.  he'll be fine.

no excuse for ross allowing two runners on in the 6th, but joel hanrahan, wow.

safe to say that the 2/3 from the Yanks, followed by the 2/3 from the Jays is going to be the highlight of the 2009 season.

This is the most embarrassing loss of the season, definitely.

No one wins every game in a 162-game season but you never have to lose embarrassingly.

You could always use your staple excuse.

As soon as Joel enters the game, the potential for embarrassment increases exponentially.

If Hanrahan gets DFA'd, who gets called up?

Awesome.  We need a 10-run rally to start with the 7-8-9 hitters scheduled.              :?

great question and good response minty.

if i were the manager i'd give bally the call-up and move stammen to the pen.  i really think stammen could have tremendous success in the pen if given the chance.

but nonetheless, balester deserves to be called up with what he's doing to AAA hitters right now.

i don't mind palmer even though he loves himself, but jim hunter is terrible - bob carpenter bad.

in positive news, EA (erik arnesen) pitched another gem for AA-Harrisburg.  Really have to like our young pitching (even if Det wasn't great tonight).
