Mueller is out on cards today, but Germany has plenty of other high scorers to take up the slack.  Ultimately, though, they are doomed, as Paul the psychic octopus picked Spain.

I fear for Paul's life if he's correct

The score didn't reflect it but Spain dominated the game. They were in complete control the entire time.

Yeah, they're a great passing/ball control team. Should be a good final.

Seems like any time I bother to take a passing interest in sports I don't really care about, the guy/team I choose always loses :?

so whats the best section/side of the stadium to keep my daughter away from drunk, fighting, bottlethrowing jackasses if i want to bring her to a dc united match?

i am thinking about going on the 18th and it would be the first time either of us have ever attended a soccer match.

anything opposite the sections Ali mentioned. the first base side/south side is safe.  i'm certain you can buy whatever seats you want and sit wherever you want. although the 18th COULD be a relatively crowded game (I dont know if Landon Donovan and LA will be enough to draw interest), but i'm still sure you'll be able to find two seats together.

If you sit on the west end of the stadium, there are some people who sit in the first few rows and bang drums, but are harmless.

the riotous crowd is really only a few sections. and if you are a few sections away it just provides some atmosphere without the beer throwing and you might not be able to hear the cursing.

it might be best you just stay on the other side of the stadium though. the hallway at halftime behind the rowdy sections gets pretty festive.  it turns into a drum banging mosh pit, which is really fun to watch from the ramps.  one of the best things i've seen at a sporting event is a 2-3 year old kid with a plastic drum and his dad holding him near the rail so he could see. the kid was banging the drum somewhat in rhythm and chanted "U NI TED" with the revelers below

in short. there is really nothing to fear.

i dont think i've ever bought a ticket ahead of time. scalpers, ticket window, whatever. save on fees

whats the expenditure for DCU matches? just in general, tickets concessions etc. kids gear and such.

bout how much dough should i be prepared to spend? is it anywhere near nats park or fedex price range?

this wont affect whether i go or not, just nice to know in advance since i have never been.

cheapest the the website is 23 bucks. i'll assume there are like $5 worth of fees. surprisingly stubhub isnt cheaper. maybe the donovan effect...but it is also a sunday night game which might offset that.

i normally buy off scalpers for less than 20 bucks.

i'm about 75% certain you can buy the cheapest box office ticket the day of the game for this one so no need to commit to anything ahead of time. i would scour craigslist and stubhub over the next week unless you are ok paying almost $30 per ticket on the dcu website.

food prices are about the same as Nats at RFK I think with some stands offering more authentic mexican and others food

july 15th is college night. $15 bucks. might include a food tailgate?

https://www.dcunited.com/college-night-july-15?r=SCHD

there is a pretty good tailgate scene and it seems half the games i have been two have vendors in the parking lot selling mexican and salvadoran food at reasonable prices

however, i havent been to a game yet this year, so my info might be obsolete

You can usually get good $20 tickets through Screaming Eagles for Section 139...but that's pretty close to the flying beer and smoke bomb zone.  If you can make it to that LA Galaxy game, it should be a good one.  The Seattle match next Thursday should be pretty good as well...it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
