Jason Jennings, RHP (4-6, 4.73)
Jason Jennings finally got some run support from his team's offense in an old-time Coors Field duel, and although he wasn't great, he got the win. It was a tough night for all pitchers with the win blowing out, but Jennings was pleased his team came out on top. He threw 105 pitches in 5 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on 10 hits.

VS.

Livan Hernandez, RHP (5-6, 5.06)
Hernandez will face the Rockies for the 18th time in his career. He is 5-7 with a 4.95 ERA against them. In his last start, Hernandez pitched with flu-like symptoms, but was solid for seven innings and it looked like he would complete his first game of the season. But a two-run homer by Pat Burrell in the eighth inning that did Hernandez in as the Phillies defeated the Nationals, 6-2.

Nobody's following it anymore.
Jamie Carroll gets ANOTHER hit, as part of his severance package.
We got $300K cash for him? The damage he's done wasn't worth it.
We should have paid $300K to win the 3 games.
But he gets picked off by Livan.

The Nationals haven't had a day off since May 15th.
They look like they've needed some rest, so a lot of 2nd stringers are starting today.
We can't afford to lose this game though.

That's because the Angelos-controlled MASN is powered by hamsters, who usually sleep during the day.
They have to keep poking some of them and bribing them with sunflower seeds to get enough of them to run the power wheel.
On the positive side, Powerball's jackpot is now $100 mill for Sat. Not enough to buy the Orioles or Marlins yet.

I honestly don't know what it is about Rockies' pitching (aside from BH Kim) that is so difficult for this club to figure out.

Johnson and Mussina pitched last night and today for the Yanks, so at least we will be facing the bottom of their rotation when they come to town this weekend.

I think I just heard on the radio that Loaiza got busted for DUI driving his Ferrarri 120 mph - apparently he learned one thing from Bowden while here

I wonder if guys like him (aka overpaid mediocre pro ballplayers) have any idea to invest their money so that they don't end up broke and/or working for ESPN once their careers are over?

It would be interesting to see a special "where are they now?" on ex-MLB ballplayers who were just regular players and not superstars. I mean really, what happens to the ones who aren't working for ESPN or TV/Radio broadcasting?

There was a lot of booing last night, from the sounds of it. Probably more today, since people had to come down with mysterious symptoms of ballpark ague to skip work & attend the game.

It doesn't bother anybody else, taht Carroll wasn't doing this stuff last year. Brandan Harris this year was better than Carroll last year. He never came close to hitting a homer for us last season, and we gave him plenty of games. All he was good for last season was working the count and a utility man.

How does a team recover from this? This is the low point of this season, so far. Even lower than being 14 games under .500.

I suppose you could take from it that no team can be this bad, that a breakdown on this scale has to be a fluke, somehow.

The schedule is determined apparently years in advance. NFL players get 2 days off per WEEK. The Nationals have had zero days off, not even a rainout, since May 15. That's 7 days per week, including travel. Imagine if this team was having to fly to Montreal from other cities. Bud Selig NEVER wanted Washington to get another team.
Thanks to a Rockies' error, the Nationals are no longer shut out.

Actually, that's not true. They had a day off on June 1st. Other than that it's been everyday.

And their next day off is the June 22nd.

In any event, that seems pretty extreme. It's one day off out of 38 days. That would tend to put a strain on the pitching. The Yankees, for example, in this same period were off on May 25th, June 12 and will also be off on June 22.
