Dukes: a five tool player?

The definition of five tool player according to wikipedia: ''In baseball, a five-tool player is one who excels at hitting for average, hitting for power, baserunning skills and speed, throwing ability, and fielding abilities. ''

When he is on his game, Dukes can hit for average, for power and can also steal ( I would like him to be more aggressive on base stealing though). He does have a good arm but his fielding abilities aren't his best. All and all, do you consider Dukes as a five tool player? I hope he plays all season long as this kid is loaded with talent.

Honestly, he's the closest thing we have to one.  So far this year he's done a lot of good things and has actually said a lot of the right things, he's been impressive.  He'll make a routine bonehead play and he'll get grief for it, but he's young and learning.  His arm is solid, he can track down some difficult flies to read, he possesses good speed (but his baserunning this year has been bad), he can hit singles the other way and he has pop. 

He's better than milledge, maxwell, bernadina, willingham and kearns and it's not close.  I'd like to think Burgess one day will complement him nicely in right and those two could combine for 60+ homers a year.

Baserunning gaffs lately make me wonder if I over-rated his base path prowess, which I thought was outstanding. Maybe he's just pressing, trying to make things happen. His arm is good, but it's not Kearns good. He fields okay. His athleticism helps him get to things that more skilled, lesser athletes might not be able to.

He's strong with the bat.

He's not a five-tool guy. At least, he hasn't demonstrated it. But he's a hell of an athlete will all sorts of up-side.

A couple of people have said this. I don't agree. I think both of their arms are great, but Dukes' is stronger and his accuracy is just as good or better.

there is a difference between tools and skills

skills are the ability to use the tools, i.e. strike zone judgement, baserunning (as opposed to raw speed)

He's definitely a five-tool player. It is simply a matter of refining them with practice and experience. The tools are there.

Dukes has great potential but he obviously lacks the discipline he needs, and it's foolish to expect he'll get it from a last-place club with so much front office disarray.

No.  Kearns arm is much better.  Dukes has probably the second best arm in the outfield with Maxwell close.

he has a 6th tool "sweating" i've never seen someone pour sweat like him before!

To me it is clear that by the commonly accepted definition Dukes has the potential but is not yet a five tool player. Hopefully we find out the truth while he plays in D.C. and A.Z. takes homoerotic foot fetish to clubs and forums more suited to his man love.

- i agree, his arm strength is absurd.
- i've come to the conclusion that Dukes pours water on himself in the dugout. there's no way he sweats like that.

Dukes can be a Five Tool Player, he has shown that he can be, but it seems he needs to be consistent to be labeled that. Hes still a hell of a player
