[RESOLVED] Mobile Version?
« Topic Start: April 17, 2009, 10:52:55 AM »
Does something like this exist? -- http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=255098.0

I can't seem to access it if it does.

It should automatically send you to the mobile version when you browse to www.wnff.net on your phone.  Depends on the phone though, I think iPhones automatically go to the full verison.  What are you using?

Motorola Q9C on Verizon network. I use IE and it opens the full version each time.

Try this URL - http://www.wnff.net/index.php?wap2

I'll make an easier-to-remember subdomain for future use

That did it. Thanks. I had been trying it with the semicolon like they had on that link. The question mark fixed it.

yeah, umm this here only works if you are using a WAP Browser lol. I finally got Opera Mini on my phone, and it opened the full site, i had to use Chief's link to get to the smaller, mobile version.

Chief - try something like m.wnff.net or something simple like that if you can.

Was going to eventually make a thread about the mobile version but I'll ask here: Is there anyway to get more then 5 replies per post on it?

Is this a thing of the past? Would be good for poor connections or 3G

the mobile version has never gone anywhere, but on some devices it isn't the default (iphone, for one)

The manual URL is http://www.wnff.net/index.php?;wap2

I tried to make a simpler url for it a while back but I'm not sure if redirects will work on all mobile devices and haven't been able to find any other way of doing it.

m.wnff.net and mobile.wnff.net and wap.wnff.net still redirect to the main version.

I prefer the full version on my iPhone anyway.  It's got a full browser and it renders perfectly, so I don't mind.  3G is fast enough to make it work without much headache.  An iTouch has WiFi only access, so I don't know why you'd want to use the mobile version on that either.

Great for saving 3G bandwidth! Gracias!

Easier to navigate on my Touch vs. the main site. Other thing is whenever I'm done typing something on the main site, it brings me to the top of the page and I have to scroll all the way down to the bottom to post.

not everyone has an iphone, you know. some of us don't like service contracts, and some of us like service providers other than AT&T.

I severely dislike how it is automatically assumed that everyone has a smartphone.

I don't think he was saying anything like that.  He was just offering his own thoughts.  Nobody said there was anything wrong with using the mobile version of the site.  C'mon son

I didn't mean everyone has a smart phone.  If you did, I said that I don't know why you'd want to use the mobile version.  For an iPod Touch user, that has to have a WiFi connection (no worries about cell bandwidth) I also thought it was strange.

This, however, is a good point.  I do hate that scrolling thing Mobile Safari does.
