Has anyone tried out any of the free MMORPGs?  I downloaded Runes of Magic last night, it seems pretty cool other than the fact that it looks like in order to get decent gear later on and things like mounts, you have to buy them.  For instance, a "permanent" mount (some are 7 day or 30 day) it costs 200+ "diamonds" which for 200 diamonds it costs $9.50

I'm downloading 4Story now.  If nothing else, the music in the youtube video that plays in the lower corner of the home page makes me think it will be awesome.  Seriously, the music is awesome.

http://global.4story.com/landing.asp
So the game leaves me feeling "meh."  The translation team seems to have been on the par of the people that did "All your base are belong to us."  Finding quest givers is difficult, and there seems to be no quest log where you can look to see what you are supposed to be doing, you have to go back to the quest giver and re-read the text.

It is very populated, since there is only 1 server.  It is also the first MMO I have played that I've actually seen a GM in game.

I'm downloading LotRO tonight since it's free to play now.  The restrictions seem crappy, most notably you can only carry 2 gold.  But maybe it's not like WoW where you get a lot of gold anyway, maybe things are cheaper.  I don't know.

Chief:
I got Steam last night too.  Where do you find good deals and especially free crap?  I haven't downloaded anything on it yet, but I'm looking for cheap / free games.  I might try Mass Effect on PC.

Just watch the "spotlight" deals and stuff under the "specials" section on the main page: http://store.steampowered.com

Day of Defeat: Source is on sale right now for $2.50 - source-based WW2 shooter - MP only though, I think.

If you wanna get Mass Effect I'd say just wait for it to go on special.  The current $19 pricetag is more than fair, but Valve always has a ton of sales around the holidays, I would be really surprised if Mass Effect didn't get discounted at some point - I know it's been on sale for $5 and $10 at various times in the past.  If you don't want to wait though it's def worth $20.  You can get the sequel for $20 as well, about half of the DLC for it is free, the other half cost "bioware points" (similar concept to xbox points).

Really there's almost always something popular on sale, it's just a matter of whether it's something you want or not.

Hmm.  Pretty crazy stat, except that most games on iOS are a pile of crap or just little time wasters, so far.  iPhone has the power to do some decent graphics for things like FPSs, but touch controls just don't work for any kind of serious gaming.

Notice that Atari is missing from that graph?  Wanna know why?  Same reason Nathan said - tons of games and most of 'em were utter sh!t.

crap, well my lens/dvd drive seems to have finally crapped out on my xbox. I knew this was going to happen but a bottle of compressed air and constant blowing has been keeping it alive for the past 6-7 months. Now, its not working.

FML because it HAD to be an error other than RROD (which I have had happen to 3 other xbox's BEFORE they would fix it for free..)

I don't understand. When I got this xbox, I have always taken the games out of the tray and placed them in their box when I was done with the xbox yet this crap still happens. freaking unbelievable. Anyone know what I can do? Is there a way I can make my xbox red ring so I can get a refurbished one? I just bought this alittle over a year ago. I don't want to waste more money on a freaking xbox.

I have another 360 laying around that I opened up to try and fix. I couldn't get past the DVD case so I put the xbox back together and bought this most recent one. That one had a problem where the disc is read but it goes to a white Xbox 360 screen. I think I am going to attempt a fix at it again. If I am successful, I will try this new one. It'd be nice if I could get both of them working... that way I can give one to my brother. I just don't want to spend 100 on a microsoft fix and ~200-300 for another xbox.

At this point, I feel more "meh" than anything in regards to GT5.  They took way too long to release it, and it's lost a lot of the "WOW" factor it would have had if it had come out years ago.

Anyone played the new Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii yet? I've been eagerly anticipating it for months, but haven't felt like running out to purchase it since it came out on Sunday. From what I've read the controls are utter horse manure. It won't be enough to stop me from purchasing it and trying it for myself, but I am curious if it's as bad as people say.

I've just recently seen the commercial, and all I know is that I instantly recognized the music, and that is what made me turn to actually see the advert.

Damn, I wish I still had a SNES!

Was thinking of picking up FIFA 11 today since it's still $35 on amazon.com. I was wondering if it's worth it? The demo is fun and I love soccer, but how's the BAP and BAP Goalkeeper mode?

Easily the best soccer game ever made and, in my opinion, the best new sports game. It's awesome.

Be A Player is fun. I haven't tried being the keeper yet. I still prefer playing the regular manager mode.

Ended up ordering it. I've always sucked at FIFA, but never actually owned it. So hopefully with owning it, I'll get better. :P

So I went online tonight with it (unranked match, 6min halfs) and I kept it close for a bit in the 1st half and then the guy scored. So what does he do for the rest of the game? Passes it back and forth between his defenders (keep in mind this was still in the first half). So I just sat my controller down since I couldn't get to him and he proceeded to score. Guy was a jackass. Unless I know the person I'm playing, I won't be going back online.

I never do go online in any of the sports games anyways since I get my butt kicked, but that was just annoying.

On a positive note, I'm getting better and definitely enjoying it. I won't ever be amazing, but at least I can win or keep it close.

I wish they'd re-release 1-3 redone to play on all PS3s, like they did with GoW.  I'd like to play Snake Eater again, but I'm too lazy to go dig out my PS2.

Anyone trying/played DC Universe Online yet? I bought it off of Steam yesterday, release day... I dunno how I feel about it yet. One major, major negative for me is playing it on the PC. They made it for PC and PS3, and it clearly plays and feels console like. The controls suck for an MMO using mouse and keyboard. Supposedly most people play with a gamepad, which I'll try eventually.

The other negative is it's rather confusing at first. I'm a hardcore MMO player going back over a decade, all fantasy games. Never tried CoH. The combat is very different, and it feels like, me being only level 6 right now, that it's just button smashing with no strategy involved. I'm sure that changes. It's also confusing as all hell. They give very little info on skills, and at character select alone there are a million different options. Then you level and get new options each time. I say those negatives, but it is a fun game, or else I wouldn't still be playing. I'm not sure it's a game I'm going to play for years, or even months, like most MMOs I enjoy, but it's been a fun way to kill a few hours the past couple days. I definitely recommend giving it a shot if you're a gamer or enjoy the DC universe.

Dead Space 2
MLB 2K12

I'm going to try that Star Wars MMO when that comes. It looks really cool. Kotor + MMO = win.

Since I don't own any consoles right now (unless you count a 20 year-old SNES ) that'll be a decision to make when the time comes.
