Really? His K/BB is nothing special. Probably wouldn't ever see the big leagues as part of the Nationals organization.

2.6? Would make him second on the team after JZ?

Even his 1.97 from the year before puts him atop most of the Nats starters.  His FIP hovers around 4. Would be an immediate swingman or rotation candidate, unless somethings not immediately obvious.

91mph FB, slider, and changeup. Where's the problem?

Bruney, Capps, Clippard, Walker, Bergmann, Stammen, Speier, Batista would all likely be ahead of him on the depth chart... and that's just RHP.

If he could fill a role, great.

His K/BB would not be that high in the pros. He's projected at a low 1.38 K/BB.

Of the 9 Nats pitchers that threw at least 50 innings last year, Gambino would be 7th on that list.

Projections - 3-4, 4.50 ERA, 45 games, 64 IP, 64 H, 36 K/26 BB, 1.41 WHIP, 5.16 FIP and these are the favorable projections.

I don't buy any of the detailed projections for guys who have no major league service, but you are welcome to your opinion. He could very well be another Marco Estrada that looks good on paper, but he's nowhere near a 5 FIP and I'd say even money he's more valuable than a Speier or Batista.

He does have major league experience.

It's very short, and it's very ugly.

It's virtually nothing, unless he's psychologically scarred

I'm getting Victor Garate flashbacks.

Greg Burke was placed on unconditional waivers by the Padres.

Is that different from an unconditional release?

Burke will become a free agent if he goes unclaimed, but he also has the right to refuse any claims so he can hit the open market.

Each team still gets a crack at claiming him, then he's cut. I love all this procedural stuff, it's so interesting.
