We don't owe Hill anything. If he wants that extra money, he should have to fight for it.

Yeah, I'm sure Shawn Hill asked for 10 million dollars until right before the deadline, when it was too late for him to take a physical, and negotiated like Dr. Evil. You need to join the reality-based community, sir.

That's it, focus on the beginnings of the negotiations instead of how they concluded so that you can't see the similarities in the Nats overall negotiating strategy.  The Lerners have this mindset that they must always prevail in contract negotiations whether it's with the city or their own ballplayers.  No difference is too miniscule with these tightwads to fight over and explains why every Nat goes to arbitration instead of reaching an amicable agreement.

You're an idiot if you think Shawn Hill deserves anything more than $200 and a gift card to Walmart. It's not about being tightwad, it is the fact that NO TEAM in the MLB would want to pay anymore for Shawn Hill's services of only 37 games in five years. Not one team would want to. This is an arbitration that should happen and the Nats should win.

Who cares if Shawn Hill is unhappy or feels hurt by it all? It's not like he is going to be out there on the mound pitching long to show his discontent.

I was shocked that the Nats even wanted him back. But considering the tightwad ways of the Lerners, an oft-injured Shawn Hill is as good as the next dumpster dive reclamation project.

After you calm down maybe you can look at the big picture and connect the dots with the Zim negotiations.

I refer you to Tomterp. I think you and him could have some interesting discussions about the worth of Shawn Hill.

You might be shocked to find that all of life and baseball aren't found in the little connect the dot book they provide for you at the nursing home.

I see DC's point a bit, the Lerners do have a disconcerting habit of playing hardball in every facet of running their business (except where it counts, on the field   :? ).  Unfortunately for them, once they gain the the reputation of being hard-assed pricks to deal with, it's going to be one more strike against us in attracting quality players, coaches, scouts, whatever.  Not insurmountable, even Steinbrenner could hire people if he paid them enough, but not a plus for the organization.

On the matter of Hill, it seems NOTLD needs some affirmation  ;).  Yes, for $500k, even $750k, Hill is a talent worth taking the minor risk for.  It's clear he's not being counted on, so anything he can give us is a plus.

Someone remind me once again why this forum was spawned?  Something having to do with people being so obnoxious on the MLB list and everyone was nice and friendly here?  So whenever I take a look at what's going on here, someone is calling someone an idiot, and it really isn't a pleasant conversation.  Meanwhile, most of the trolls on the other list are gone and it's quite pleasant.  So, remind me again why this forum exists?

This is an arbitration meeting they need to be playing hardball with. Hill's got some balls asking for money after all what little he has done the past five years. There isn't a team in the MLB that wouldn't take him to arbitration, not with his history. I prefer the hardball tactics to giving out free money to bums.

Does any sports message board have pleasant conversations? What do people expect when coming to a sports message board? Flowers, butterflies, and muffin recipes?

True, every board seems to have its share of dicks.

Maybe we should get the nicest person here and clone that person so everybody can be the same.   :?

Although not forking over 50K sounds like petty bullcrap I have to agree with NOTLD. I don't see how Hill can win this arbitration hearing. He hasn't done crap to earn a raise. This reminds me of TRJPWH trying to milk the last few bits from the only team that is willing to throw him a bone before it all comes to an end. We should Patterson his ass too before Opening Day.

I'm not really surprised at this happening, but honestly I may have to take the side of the Nats on this one.  As much as I like Hill and the whole when healthy scenario (I forgot his nickname, :spidernat batsignal: ), it's hard to imagine him seeking more money as he hasn't been able to stay healthy after we have given him plenty of chances.

I would hope to avoid arb w/ Zim/Olsen/Willingham though.

His nickname is COSH, Cautiously Optimistic Shawn Hill.  :?
