Licey defeated the Gigantes today 4-3 in 12 innings to take the best-of-9 series 5 games to none.
Licey advances to the Caribbean World Series which also features the champion of the Puerto Rican Winter League (Ponce), and the champions of the Venezuelan Winter League (still playing), and Mexican League (still playing).
The 2009 Caribbean World Series takes place in Mexicali and begins on Monday, February 2nd and ends on Saturday, February 7th.
The format is a 12-game round robin structure in which each of the 4 teams play 6 total games.
The team with the best record at the end of the series is declared the Caribbean World Series Champion.

The Washington Nationals have several players on the Licey Tigres team including Daniel Cabrera, Ronnie Belliard, Jesus Flores, and Anderson Hernandez.
