Their almost exclusive focus on the Red Sox and Yankees tends to be self fulfilling, as they quietly drive away fans of other teams and are left with the fans they pander to the most.  No wonder that's where all the interest is.

Boycott? By whom, all 6k of the MASN households that tune in to watch the Nats on TV? That'll put the fear of God into ESPN.  :ballbat:

Exactly. Which is why the motto "World Wide Leader in Sports" and the #1 source is preposterous. It isn't proper journalism, it is propaganda with some of the worst bias seen in "news media" since FOX News and the corruption of William Randolph Hearst.

The only bright side to this nonsense is seeing the media miss this one by a mile!  All that man-love for the Sox prevented them from seeing this one.  As was reported in the Boston Herald, the Sox haven't talked to Boras since they left their meeting in Dallas in a huff but that didn't stop Gammons, Olney et al from still proclaiming that the Sox would sign Tex. They must be hyperventilating at this point.   :woop:

Oh, but they are delighted that it was the Yankees.  Already the airways are filled with mealy mouthed New Yorkers proclaiming the unmitigated greatness of da Yankees, pleased that while their organization is unable to develop its own players, it has enough money to paper over its mistakes.

Just wait until a few weeks from now when Dunn, Hudson, Manny, etc. have all been signed by teams not named the Nationals.  :hang:

You're right tomterp, my bad. I wasn't being grumpy. I just didn't get the joke. I'll delete my post.

I'm glad it was the Yankees.  If it couldn't have been us, I'd prefer them over the other mentioned destinations.  The Red Sox were full of themselves, the BlO's play us 6 times a year, and I really don't like the Angels.  The Yankees didn't even need him that badly, so it helps them less.

Somehow we need to find a way to transfer the curse the Nationals have had the last couple of years, regarding the amount of injuries, to the Yankees so that it will haunt them for the entire existence of their new stadium.

More satisfying: Yankees have a miserable first season in their new stadium and miss the playoffs but so do we or they win it all but barely by beating the Nationals in 6 games of the WS?

Absolutely not, I'm just freaking around. I don't know if I posted this before but the night of game 4 of the AL divisional playoffs, when Boston was down 3 games and 1 run in the bottom of the 9th, I did something at exactly midnight and told those around me that I had officially removed the curse of the Bambino. I was joking but you know what happened.  :?

The second one. We get a chance to play them in NY this season too. That should be good. Hopefully we can take 2 of 3 again like we did a few years ago against them.

The happiest day of my life will be the day the yanks go down and flames and get eliminated from the post season ...

The more realistic one, yankees screwing up.

But if we had a chance to make it to the playoffs, thatd be amazing :P and i would look forward to the next year counting down the days

I can't believe you even have to ask that question.

Damn, there are some Bitter Betty's here with the Yanks.  Granted, I never liked them to begin with, but I don't have some new seething resentment over the Tex signing.  They're entitled to do what they want.

It's our fault for not giving Tex a more attractive offer.

I totally agree. My intention was to point out that some people are more concerned with hating certain teams, and they seem to get more satisfaction out of seeing them lose, than seeing their team win.

He said that wasn't the reason. He said that he wanted to win now.

Quote
According to a Major League source, Teixeira's agent, Scott Boras, told the Nationals that Texieira wanted to win now and felt the Nationals were not ready to win.

I can say im not one of those guys, seeing our team win is the best thing ever, but it wont happen in the next year or two, easily to see, so for what i said, id rather see the more reaslistic option in the next year in the yankees losing with 2 of the best free agents. Who says we can't beat them in the regular season anyway?

Well yeah, I'm just pointing out that it's sad that some people here feel that way.

Hah, yeah, okay.  Like he wouldn't have signed here for 200, an opt-out, and a no-trade.  I really believe that!

Well, what if we gave him a better offer but he chose the Yankees anyway?  Of course that's his right, but it doesn't say much for competitive balance.
