There is a new DX?

I haven't watched wrestling since...lord knows. I remember when the Rock left the WWE for his Hollywood career, my interest sort of waned and disappeared. Say what you want about The Rock, but he was a master on the stick.

My all-time favorite Rock moment was when he took the camera from the cameraman during one of his matches with Austin and gave us "Rock Cam" and commentating the match while he was at it.  I loved when he turned the camera around and Austin was standing there ready to give The Rock the stunner and The Rock held the camera while taking the bump.

They don't make them like The Rock anymore...

well, my whole point in bringing it up is that this sort of thing has been touted as a deterrent for signing Manny Ramirez("will he be happy playing for a losing team?" etc.), I'm just saying we should be worried about other players coming here because of lack of better options as well.

Understood, and that's why I think last year was such a bummer and I would've loved to avoided it.  But the past is the past and we used to be the Expos.  There are always going to be teams like the Royals, Mariners, hell even the Orioles, teams nobody wants to go to.  But at the same time, they need jobs and sometimes these teams can come swooping in and offer some good money.  Perfect example I used earlier, the Tigers w/ Pudge, they transformed just like that.  Not saying we are going to do that (I mean look at their pitching staff for god sakes), but it gives some spec of hope.

The Rock and Stone Cold was definitely the greatest, if not the top 3 then, of rivalries in WWF. They gave entertainment, great matches, and brought many fans.

hahahahaha yes totally remember that.  Stone Cold vs. Rock ranks up there in all-time great rivalries ... Redskins vs. Cowboys ... UNC vs. Duke ... Nationals vs. Orioles ... 8)

and just for craps and giggles:

PITCHERS (11 / 3 LHP, 8 RHP)
LHP Matt Chico
LHP Ray King
LHP Odalis Perez
RHP Luis Ayala
RHP Jason Bergmann
RHP Jesus Colome
RHP Chad Cordero
RHP Joel Hanrahan
RHP Jon Rauch
RHP Tim Redding
RHP Saul Rivera

CATCHERS (2)
C Jesus Flores
C Paul Lo Duca

INFIELDERS (7)
INF Aaron Boone
2B Ronnie Belliard
SS Cristian Guzman
1B Nick Johnson
1B Dmitri Young
INF Felipe Lopez
3B Ryan Zimmerman

OUTFIELDERS (5)
OF Elijah Dukes
OF Willie Harris
RF Austin Kearns
OF Rob Mackowiak
OF Lastings Milledge

that was our opening day roster last season. Note: the only reason Dukes was even on this roster was because our originally planned OD Starting LFer, WMP was injured.

this is our currently projected roster for this upcoming season.

Pitchers
LHP John Lannan
LHP Scott Olsen
RHP Collin Balester
RHP Daniel Cabrera
RHP Jordan Zimmerman
RHP Steven Shell
LHP Mike Hinckley
RHP Garrett Mock
RHP Saul Rivera
RHP Joel Hanrahan
RHP Shawn Hill

Catchers:
C -Jesus Flores
C- Wil Nieves

Infield:
1B Nick Johnson
2B Anderson Hernandez
3B Ryan Zimmerman
SS Cristian Guzman
2B/3B Ronnie Belliard
1B/3B Kory Casto
SS/2B Alberto Gonzalez

Outfielders
OF Josh Willingham
OF Elijah Dukes
OF Lastings Milledge
OF Willie Harris
OF Austin Kearns

Note: I do not expect Casto and Gonzalez to make the team. I just put them there to fill the spots.  I expect them to be beaten out in Spring Training.
I'd say this year's roster is much improved. We've replaced veteran bums like Rob Mackowiak, Paul Lo Duca, Aaron Boone, Odalis Perez, Tim Redding, Jesus Colome, Felipe Lopez, etc. with younger players that are superior in Olsen, Anderson Hernandez, JZ, Willingham, Nieves, Mock, Hinckley, etc. We are younger and better in almost every facet.

We've slowly transitioned over the years from a team with a few youngsters and a lot of veterans (i.e. '06-'08) and are beginning to build a team from the ground up with really talented young players instead of relying on 30-year old stopgap options like we have been doing for years.

Just look at our projected rotation for this year. No Livan Hernandez, No Ramon Ortiz, No Jason Simontacchi, No Tim Redding, No over-aged bum that will be here just for the short term.

And for some reason, I could be wrong, I thought you liked Boone at some point last season.

What? Nieves is 5 years younger than Lo Duca and a much, much better catcher. He's a better hitter too at this point in their respective careers.

Boone had some of the worst ABs last year I've seen in a long time. Complete waste.

He had a few nice clutch plays/hits and had a little hot streak but outside of that he was awful at the plate.

I still think having Boone as a bench player isn't a bad option.

It's a horrible option....especially now since he is signed to Houston. ;)

Boone was brought on to be a bench player, which would have been perfect for him -- he ended up playing everyday because of all the injuries and he's just not an every day player anymore -- I thought he did a fine job, all things considered -- and I woudn't have minded him as a bench option now --

It isn't a bad option if you use sportsfan's logic and compare him to Wil Cordero.   :?

Well we can cross Jason Varitek off the wish list (any of you who had him on it anyway).  It's reported that he's signed with (prepare for the shock value)................................The Red Sox.

haha thank god tek sucks.  I can't believe ESPN actually had a clock countdown to deadline for tek and sawx.  this is another reason red sox nation sucks.  the dude hit .220 last year, doesn't have the greatest arm and has a fantastic staff ... still got voted in as an all star starter.
