I think we WILL get Sheets. Larry Sheets played for the O's, and we're currently stockpiling O's castoffs. So I expect to see Sheets in a Nats uni. In fact, Larry Sheets is originally from Staunton, VA, and he has privately expressed an eagerness to play close to home. I think this gives us a leg-up. Hopefully he MEANS it about playing close to home, unlike you-know-who.

I like how you are running with this. I love jokes-that-don't die

Back to Dunn, I read today (but don't ask me where) that his price has fallen and now is believed to be worth only perhaps $36m-39m/3 years

Hopefully we've already made an offer.

Does Plan B consist of trading Debbi Taylor for a pack of gum?

While we're at it maybe we can get Rick Dempsey to switch over to Nats Xtra.

The idea of trading Milledge has to hurt hammondsnats more than anything. He may even consider going back to the birds.

Luckily cmdterps will be there to console him.

What do you think we could get for Milledge anyways. Just think last year all the Mets got for him was Church and Schneider. And I'd say his value has plummeted after being pretty average here last season.

If we traded Milledge, I dont think we would do it straight up, maybe a package deal for something better?

I don't think we'd get much. Since we're putting the band together again let's trade him back for Schneider and Church. That at least will make some people here happy.  :?

I think his value actually went up.

At least he has a baseline as a Major League contributor. Not a top shelf one, but still.

Why is that?

He was 23 last season, he finally got a chance to steal bases, and he showed he could pretty easily become a consistent 20/20 guy. I think most teams see him as having a value closer to when he was a top prospect. For his first full season in the majors, I'd say he did pretty damn well.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I thought I should share it anyways.

This is from the newest Q&A w/ Bowden.

Quote
wilnieves: Q: Who should we expect to be called up from the Minors next season?

j_bowden: Of all of the players in our organization, more clubs ask for Jordan Zimmermann in trades than any other player. Last year, Jordan was a combined 10-3 with a 2.89 ERA in both Harrisburg and Potomac. He will be given consideration to make our rotation out of Spring Training.

I agree. I don't know why we should trade him? He has a ton of years left.
He did show flashes of greatness last season.

I think Willingham, Dukes, and Milledge is a really good outfield.
I think if we get Dunn and Hudson, we will have a great lineup.

The issue is pitching. We are hinging on Jordan Zimmermann having a breakout season. It would also be nice if Daniel Cabrera had a breakout season. That is a lot of IF's.

I see us competing for .500 with the additions of Dunn and Hudson. We can't assume that the NL East will be dominant this year. I think the Braves are due for another down year.

I'd hate to see what would happen if we traded away Lannan, Balester, Zimmermann and Milledge.

Other than that, your stating a hypothetical joke towards hammondsnats.

Agreed. It would be silly to trade Milledge unless we got some serious prospects in return.

idle speculation:

which is preferable - Dunn at 1B.  or Dunn in RF with Willingham at 1B?

or Dunn-Milledge-Dukes from LF to RF, with Willingham at 1B?

If we traded Milledge I'd give up on the Nats.  We contsantly give Kearns chances when he has proved he does not deserve a starting spot.  And we'd give up one of our best young players, who put up the best numbers even after missing a month and playing CF for the first time in his career.

I really need to take some time to think and collect my thoughts before my next post.  I knew this day was coming, but from what is being reported in some blogs/media sources that we may not spend any of that "Teix money" in other areas to go along with the realization that we are going to have another 90-loss season ... ahhhh my head is going to explode.

Oh and Chris, I'm off to Modells and I was going to get you a Teix Nats jersey, but seeing how we didn't sign him, I guess I don't have to worry about a present for you.  Unless you want a Nats 2008 AAAA card collection set (featuring your favorite Nats: Langerhans, Speigner, Orr, and more!)

I prefer Dunn at first, unless Willinghams range went to crap recently.

I just remember seeing Dunn ( we all have to remember that ) when he was in nats park w/ the reds, a fly ball straight to him, went over his head and he kinda jogged to the ball and we got like 2 runs off of it.

:P

I dont really care, depends whos quicker and better out there.

Dont get my hopes up like that hahah, ill still take the AAAA pack

I dont think its that hes that attached, its just the fact that trading a young player like Milledge for unknown would be a stupid move.
