Fact is, despite AZ and Sportsfans dislike of the guy, Dunn is a clear upgrade over Casto/Belliard/Boone at 1B.
No crap? Really? :bang:

Except that unsourced anecdote fails to mention how many times he got singles, doubles, walks, triples, home runs, or reached on error in those situations. The guy does NOT have problems getting the ball out of the infield. He doesn't hit into DP. My bunk detector went off.

AZ is just as credible as BP. Through the 2008 season the mighty Dunn had had a grand total of 21 sac flies.

The added big bat threat would help, too. On this team, I consider him an upgrade over a healthy NJ. (here comes Tom...)

I heard that, don't make me come over there....

However, with signing Dunn, I think keeping our defense up would have to be a priority in order to reduce our runs allowed.

Ryan Zimmerman, Cristian Guzman or Anderson Hernandez will never win a gold glove with Adam Dunn playing first base.  Dunn is a statue in the outfield and his hands are made of the same material as a statue.

That's because most of them go over the wall as homers  I'm ignoring the rest of your statement.

Dunn.

make an offer right now.

either Dunn can play 1st, or Dunn can play RF with Willingham at 1st.

that said, I wouldn't be surprised if we made a stupid offer to Manny.

Get Dunn ASAP. I'd offer 4 years, 60M with a 17.5M club option.

Hypothetically, what happens if we don't get Manny, Hudson, or Dunn? Riots at Nationals Park? Boycotts?

I would go 3 years 45 but would prefer 2/30.

Hell no, people will still "Let Yourself Go!" and renew season tickets.

Manny is a right handed OF. WTF would that accomplish? Can he pitch?  See out the back of his head so he can hit from the left side right handed? We are boned.

I'm going to mail my s/t invoice to Selig and Steinbrenner (and cc Lerner) and tell them both to pound sand. If they want to spend $400 mil in free agents in order to buy a series in this recession, they can certainly afford the $900 to renew my cheap seats better than I can.

I'm not saying that I WANT to sign Manny.  I'm just saying I think that is what will happen.

Manny would be a publicity stunt move, since we didn't get Tex.

3 years 45-50 million would be ideal.  nick johnson draws more walks and is a better contact hitter, but at least dunn won't spend 80 percent of the season on the DL and he'll hit more dingers.  i'd also like us to sign ben sheets/jon garland.  i'm willing to take a risk on anderson hernandez, he's the hot hand.

but i don't know how much fear this line-up strikes:

SS Guzman
CF Milledge
3B Zimmerman
1B Dunn
LF Willingham
RF Dukes
C Flores
2B Anderson

What about Bobby Abreu for a year or two, he was buried on that NYY lineup , hit .296, 20 hrs, 100 rbi's and I believe he's played some 1b in the past and plays good D.  I think I'd prefer that to Dunn.

Those are NJ numbers, actually. He can walk 100 times a year. Go for it. He's a SS/OF. He can probably handle 1B.

IMO, the most interesting storyline of this offseason from the get-go, was to see if we didn't land Teix, would we still spend the money in other areas.  It's not a given, but I think Ted Lerner is pretty bummed about losing on Teix, I'd hope to think he'd still like to make a splash.

Look if we got both Dunn and Manny, nobody here should be complaining.  Sure Manny has been considered as a cancer in the past ... but some players actually love playing with him and also having his bat in the line-up.  Those two would be a tremendous boost to our team.

But then again I wouldn't be surprised if the Yanks signed Manny as well haha.
