nope. Dukes WOULD HAVE (it's not even certain) struck out 148 times in the same # of at bats as Dunn who struck out 164 times. simple math says 148 < 164.

also, it can't be ignored that Dukes is only 24 and will improve as a hitter. Dunn has no room for improvement. he is and always will be an overrated one tool bum vs Dukes who is a flourishing 5 tool phenom.

and with that said, Dukes can't play every position at the same time.

so having Dunn won't hurt, and is much preferably to having Casto at 1B. period.  Tex is ideal, Dunn is a fine Plan B.

so I'm confused as to why you seem obsessed with comparing every single player at every single position on the field to Dukes. he only plays one position at a time, so we need other players, obviously.

He wouldn't but still the Red Sox have no business even attempting to sign Teixeira. They don't need him! They already have a firstbaseman (and another young 1B prospect in the minors). They are already a Championship-contending team without Teixeira.

I don't think people grasp the concept of doing everything within your power to improve your team, no matter the cost. They're stuck on the bullcrap idea that winning teams have to be built a certain way. Winning is winning no matter how you go about it.

The AP is reporting that the Red Sox are indeed meeting with Tex in Texas.
The interesting thing though is it mentions that The Sox don't expect a deal to get done tonight.
This isn't a meeting to finalize a contract after all.

One source said he believed that Boston was in for close to $180 million over eight years and the Angels in for about the same. The Nats may be as high, or even higher than that. Some suggest they have either hit the $200 million mark, or gotten very close. Or that someone else has.

Boston's offer is believed to be 8/184. it's also been said that we've offered more than Boston has.

so if Tex chooses Boston, I can't be mad at the Lerners effort here, unless they don't turn around and sign some other folks.

2.)Either eway, I have to say that I am impressed, even relieved, that the Lerners apparently are ready to pony up some cash to make this team a winner.  let's hope this wasn't just a one time stop-gap measure, but an actual awakening that by spending wisely and putting quality on the field they will be able to not only enjoy success, bt also increase the value of thier franchise immeasurably.

1) Yeah, but at this point it appears he's only negotiating with one team...also known as dotting I's and crossing T's.
