It's wrong to say average doesn't matter, but it's right to say that generally OBP is more meaningful, though both impart information omitted by the other.  I like to know both, since then you can deduce the walks and HBP that make up OBP, to get a fuller profile.  Dunn fleshes out the debate because some people are fixated on his strikeouts and low average, but fail to give adequate weight to his walks and power.

Don't get it twisted, I agree with everything you wrote in this post. I just find it laughable that people insist on making that statement about average being meaningless in order to sound more knowledgeable than the fan that hasn't memorized the BP mantra.

These posts brought back some decent memories. I loved the way the dog laughed.

I bet none of you knew that you can control the ducks with the second player controller ;)

And no I'm not joking, I'm totally serious.

I really don't know what to make of this situation.  it is really either one of two things....teh Nats are seriously going to make a run at him(which they must realize will probably require a bigger offer than more established, "name" teams) or they are just bluffing to make it seem as though they are serious about this franchise.

Guys, i hate to continualy harp on this, but I think we are facing a decison that is going to define what kind of team we have/are able to have under this ownership group.  If they are not only unwilling to pony up serious cash for this type of guy(who is really a more perfect fit that can be imagined, with himm  beuing from this area), when will they?

Face it, the attendance, fan support, and TV numbers for this team in their 4th year in this major market town with a new stadium is HORRIBLE.  Yes, the Lerners are making money for now, but if this continues and the stadium is a hulking piece of crap in 10-15 years we will be an even bigger joke than we are now.

I'm not saying we need to get Teixeira, but if they are using this as a season ticket promotiojal smokescreen these people (the lerners) are more clueless than we could have imagined, and we are in trouble as DC baseball fans.

Let's hope for the best.

I don't know how much Tex is into the players union, but I do know he is a Boras client and that should give us a little hope. The highest bidder will win all this stuff that Boras clients say is just a smoke screen. Tex was saying all the things Soriano said before he was traded out of Atlanta, and then he said the same things about the Angels. If we offer even one penny more than the Red Sox then Tex plays here. Of course we could very well make a good serious offer and still not be the highest bidder and then the Lerners will still be cheap.

I knew that. It made the game a lot more challenging when you were playing against someone else.

I've always had questions about your judgement.

Do you prefer to freeze your ass off in a boat, or in a blind?  And, be honest, once the sun is up full what sort of beverage do you drink?

Ok, I'm a little jealous.  I've only hunted a couple of times, but if I was to take it up, I think duck hunting would be pretty fun.  I often jump small groups when fishing in tidal creeks.  It's damn hard to get close to them.

I'm a Blind man. I love being down in the hole. Find a migratory path, set up a few decoys, get down in the pit with a few buds, and make a day of it.

Duck hunting is like Star Wars but with shotguns. When those geese or duck come in, you just light those buggers up with a 12-gauge and buckshot. Insane. Good times and even better eating.

As for drinks of preference, we go in a pattern. When we first get there in the morning we take cases of bottled water and cheap beer and stack them in a pattern of bottled water, beer, bottle water, beer. We start with the bottle water and once that is gone we get a case of beer. Once that is gone its back to water.

Strange customs are afoot in a duck blind.

I can be as optimistic as anybody if there is something to be optimistic about...

For example, Roger Bernadina and Nook Logan actually being major league outfielders.

We'd probably get more production out of you for 150 games than about 6 innings of a healthy Nick Johnson.   :?
