We are a dreadfully woeful offensive team. 4 runs in the last 25 innings. We just keep having these long spells where we barely score.

Well, at least Frank was able "to preserve his bench". Which is how they play- like they're "preserved."

I thought our bench was supposed to be improved this year? If anything, it's worse.

And there is absolutely no excuse for not having a real backup catcher which boxes you into having to PH Hernandez for fear of not using your backup catcher too early.

I remember he PH'ed Joey Eischen in like the bottom of the 14th inning last year against the Astros because he had used up all of his bench players. He actually had Eischen PH when Livo was available, I guess because Eischen had the lefty/right advantage.

1. Let a hot hitter (Byrd) lead off
2. Leave the starting pitcher in longer (107 pitches)
3. Let Livan pinch hit (he'd been hitting over 300)

Jeepers guys, with Zimmerman out, Frank has one fewer PH off the bench, so he uses a .250 hitting pitcher. Seems pretty reasonable to me~~:)

Yeah but I think he's much more effective as a pitcher. Maybe he can take out the first base coach on a fast ball.

Ouch. Well, using Livo to pinch hit makes even more sense. Actually, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often with good hitting starting pitchers. Also, I'm surprised we don't see got base running starters pinch run from time to time in the late innings of games either as benches thin out. Naturally, you'd have to worry about injuries, but ..... what the hey.

That wont be necessary, Matsui or the pinch hitter will hit a walk off HR to embarrass the Nats even more than they should be already.
