Ol' Danny Boy needs to get this game in.  After DC, the Fish go to the Mets, and that series is supposedly going to get rained out.  Probably at least two of the games in NY would be made up, but it could turn out Danny Boy only has two more chances to reach the 300 LOB plateau.  He's sitting on 293 right now.  It should be 294, but the Nats scorer only credited him with 5 last night when he left 2 on in the 3rd, 6th, and 9th - for most people that adds up to 6 LOB, but the Nat's scorer apparently has a day job with the OMB.  Danny Boy would have had a 7th LOB if not for the WP that scored Maybin in the 1st when Danny K'd for the 165 time.  He finished the night with 167 Ks for the year, reaching last year's atrocity in 113 fewer ABs.

Even heavier rain is about to move into the D.C. area. If they were smart they'd cancel the game right now.

There's no way this games get played and, for the first time, the Nationals will end a season playing fewer than 162 games.

We've got to play the Phillies games, though.

This definitely hurts our chances. The Mariners have to win at least two more games for us to get the #1 pick if we don't play this game.

Well, I don't regret my decision to bag on going to this one now. The Red Porch and Loft are probably packed.

From Chico:

Quote
UPDATE, 8:52 p.m. -- It's still raining hard here, but we've gotten no official word on a cancellation. Nats PR man Bill Gluvna says that MLB is adamant about trying to get this one in. If that somehow happens, the brave dozens still huddling under the overhangs here will get a reward... or maybe just a bad night's sleep.

Why are the last few games canceled for a rain delay again?

What a load of bullcrap. Can't believe we are only going to play 161 games. If we end up half a game worse than Seattle at the end of the season I want Selig's head on a plate.  >:(

That would make no sense. That's admitting that a team is willing to tank a game for the sake of draft position. You can't do anything about the weather. It's also dumb to play an irrelevant game because you don't like your draft position.

Every team should have to play a full 162 game season. What horse crap. They would never do something like this in the NFL.

Definitely a fitting way to end such a lousy season at a beautiful new park:  last home game canceled and no make-up.

What is the reasoning behind just dropping a game late in the season due to a rain delay?

Of course the NFL wouldn't do this. They don't cancel games due to weather. This game is meaningless. I guarantee you that if this were the other way around and we would stand to gain the top pick because Seattle would not play their final game people wouldn't be complaining.

Nah. I just don't think it's fair. Every team should have to play the same amount of games. This game doesn't mean anything in terms of the playoffs but it has just as big implications on other levels.

Actually, you've got LOADS of make-up on your avatar.
