kornheiser is a joke.  all he does is talk about superstars and quote lines from entourage/seinfeld (which is what most of us do, but we'll talk about everything about sports, not just the played out topics).  he has no credibility in my book.

and i have brian westbrook on my fantasy squad i'll take it.

great win nats.  it's a shame we didn't lock up yesterday's win.  future is bright with zim, milledge, dukes, lannan and balester all contributing the last couple games.

Some posts from the Mutts' board:

Quote

The Nats usually get up around 11 on game days.

The Mets are in town, they go to bed early and are up at 8

Quote
This sums up the 2008 Mets. They have no heart, no guts. They just roll over and die. They make me want to throw my TV against the wall. I'm telling all of you they will go 0-7 on this roadtrip. They will be the laughing stock of baseball for the second year in a row.

Quote
Ugh, it's like a bad movie repeating itself- Beltran the mouthbreather going through the motions, Reyes pressing, Delgado smiling while they choke away the season, etc. UGH!

Quote
Nats have some real ni.gg.er.s on their team

dukes is by far the worst however.

he would've made a great slave in colonial america.

I didn't get the meaning of the first quote but I'd like to run into the person who wrote that last one.

The first quote was inferring that we get up for the games against the Mutts and roll over for everyone else.

In that case it was a stupid quip.

I'd like to think that, in spite of all our issues and disagreements here, we are free of that bullcrap attitude but you can never be entirely certain about that.

Wow, I'm stunned. Lannan says he learned a new way to grip the changeup from Martis - he practices all week, and then throws the best he has all season.  In particular, he says the changeup is much improved due to the grip change.

That bodes very well for the future.

I don't think anyone here is as pathetic as that last quote.

Me too

That's awesome though. Definitely good to see the young guys helping each other out. Lannan says he feels great even now after pitching without missing a start all season. That's great to hear too considering how many injured and weak players we have/had around here.

Most of the people posting on the thread aren't supportive, and the poster is probably a troll, but the thread is revealing for the overall low IQ displayed.

what a GREAT game!

Lannan STIFLES the Mets...7 IP 1 H 7 K!

Hernandez comes through with the CLUTCH 2 rbi single vs his former team...now batting .340 as a Nat! (did you guys notice Dukes MOTORING from 2nd to home?! he's got insane speed for a man his stature)

and then...

DUKES WITH THE DAGGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i can't wait to watch him OWN the HR Derby next yr since he's gonna be a surefire all-star.

Milledge had a solid 3 hit night. he made a nice catch in the OF too in the 9th inning, from side to side he is money.

1 down, 3 to go...it's time to contribute to another Mutts collapse!

Just got back from the game. One of the best outings all season from Lannan. He has a tendency to waste too many pitches and get behind guys. But he was very crisp tonight and was cruising over the last few. I really would have preferred him to stay in given that he had a short outing last game and was rarely pitching under stress out of the stretch in this game. He probably could have dealt 120 pitches. But it all worked out. It shows how poorly some of the guys in the pen have been doing lately when Colome looks more consistent than most. If Hinckley stays healthy, he will be a fixture in the pen.

Dukes's bomb was not quite as majestic as the one a couple weeks ago, but it was a towering shot. He now has owns two of the most mamoth shots of the season.

Pedro is not what he used to be, but it was great to beat him and send the Mets fans home disgusted. (There were a few Mets fans sitting behind me tonight-incredible morons. I can't believe they go to college here.)

Good ol' Ryan Church with a shot at Lannan in a post-game interview.

Quote
The Mets were beaten this time by a pitcher they had handled three times previously this season. Their record in those games was 3-0. But this time, John Lannan was more effective, less generous and more successful. Battered by the Mets at Shea Stadium last week, he limited them to one hit in seven innings on Monday. Lannan (9-13) struck out seven and walked three.

"It's baffling," Ryan Church said. "I don't know how he gets away with what he throws."

We had a Mets fan in front of us bellowing, "Chokers, chokers!" It was absolutely hilarious. But the civilized Met fan behind us actually complimented Lannan's pitching, so not all Mutts fans are heinous.
