Washington Nationals shortstop Cristian Guzman and Cincinnati Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo have been named Bank of America Presents the National League Co-Players of the Week for the period of August 25-31, 2008. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of America's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.Last week Guzman led the N.L. with a .552 (16-29) batting average and 16 hits. The 30-year-old posted an .828 slugging percentage and a .552 on-base percentage, scored four runs and collected three doubles, a triple, a home run and six RBI. On August 28th vs. the Dodgers, Cristian became the second player in the history of the Washington Nationals to hit for the cycle, turning in a 4-for-5 effort with three RBI and two runs scored. The 2008 N.L. All-Star recorded six multi-hit performances in as many games, helping Washington earn a 6-0 record for the week. This marks Cristian's first career weekly award honor. On the season, Guzman is batting .308 with 67 runs scored, 32 doubles, six home runs and 42 RBI.Arroyo led the N.L with 16.0 innings pitched en route to his 2-0 record, which included a complete game. The 31-year-old right-hander posted a 1.69 ERA, allowing three runs and two walks while fanning eight. On August 26th at Houston, Bronson (13-10, 4.97 ERA) became the first Reds pitcher to throw a complete game this season, permitting one run on five hits with three strikeouts.
