HOW COME?
« on: September 09, 2007, 11:07:04 pm »
At least in football and baseball there is still voluntary segregation in the dugouts and the sidelines....whites hang out with whites, blacks with blacks and latinos with latinos. I thought we had made progress.

That's not always the case but the reason is because they share a lot of things in common as far as backgrounds and they have similar likes and dislikes. It's as simple as that. We naturally tend to gravitate to people that are like us.

Happens a lot.  In HS and College, I had friends and aquaintences of all races and cultures.  Watch any cafeteria or lunch at HS or College, all the Darker skinned people sat together, lighter skinned people sat together etc.

I'm glad at my work, I sit with all cultures and colors!  We have fun!  The only fun we CAN have at work!

It happens everywhere, not just in sports.  Happens in schools, the workplaces, and even in the case of the wedding I just took part in, at weddings.  Half the dance floor was all black, the other half all white.

so then both sides should not be nagging about racism and segregationism. we either are human beings or continue to be closet bigots.

The first statement is only partly true.

People segregate themselves for varying reasons including race, politics economic class, etc. I think one reason for this is because some people feel more comfortable around those of similar ilk. But this does not necessarily make them closet bigots. Of course that's not to overlook the fact that there are other reasons that cause people of different mindsets to segregate themselves from those different from themselves which are not as innocuous.

But to me, all of this isn't being racist.  It's just having more in common with someone, thus being more likely to have something to talk about.
