Who will get your presidential vote?
« on: August 29, 2007, 06:54:24 am »
I know it's early, but as of right now, who would you like to see become president.

I'm not going to make this in poll format, because there are just too many candidates to name.

My vote will probably be for Mitt Romney.  He's outspoken on a lot of issues, and he agrees with the things I do along the lines of immigration, the economy, and protecting our children.

Romney is still on my consideration list, but I am supporting Ron Paul.  I did have a lot of hope for Obama, and would love to have him as a neighbor, but could only vote for him as a vote against somebody else.  All the other (close to) front runners, and would be front runners if they ever announce, if running against Obama, would result in my vote for Obama.  If I don't have a choice of Romeny or Paul, or Obama as an emergency backup on the ballot, I'll probably have my first write-in on a presidential ballot.

I am in general agreement with Paul on economics, immigration, security, individual rights, and health care.

Only the family/children issues, I am alone on my side of the family in that I am pro-choice (Paul, who was an OB/Gyn, is firmly pro-life) and don't believe Roe v. Wade should even be an issue.  To me, a much more important social issue is Kelo v. New London (the tragic eminent domain decision).  I tend to be conservative (please do not read Republican into that or else I'll have to take a hot shower and flea-dip) on most economic issues, and liberal on most social issues.  However, since the liberal candidates overwhelmingly support the Kelo v. New London decision, and generally all issues which eliminate property rights and individuals rights in order to provide to the government so that the government can provide for "the greater good" with a d@mned shopping mall or other such BS, I guess I'm considered to be a conservative on that social issue.

BTW - the Democrats are not allowing any FL delegates to vote at their convention.  That's a sure way to win support.

That FL primary business has me scratching my head.  Gnnuuuhhh???  I used to be registered in Dade County, and this would have pissed me off (almost) enough to vote for the other party.

The DNC is upset because the primary is on Jan 29 and not Feb 5, so it un-invited FL to the convention.

Hey, Ali, it's getting worse:

Quote
Terrie Brady, a DNC member who helped present Florida's case, said the party's denial of delegates disenfranchises voters. Rules committee members objected to the term, saying Florida's votes would be counted if they followed the rules.

"I find your use of the word disenfranchisement to be an overstatement," said committee member David McDonald, who is from Washington state.

I guess it doesn't matter since 47% of Democratic voters don't care that their vote doesn't count.

A new poll by the Atlanta-based firm InsiderAdvantage shows about 53 percent of Florida Democrats oppose the DNC's decision.

There's a perception that Iowa and New Hamphire, maybe SC have undue influence over the candidate weeding out process due to their early dates.  So now many other states are moving their dates earlier to try to make their own primaries more important.  It's a big race to out "early" each other, and it's becoming a fiasco.  Florida was warned against the change, blew off the warning and did it anyway, triggering the response by the DNC.

Not to be outdone, the GOP just un-invited the FL delegates from its convention.

And somehow, this doesn't come as a surprise.  Now that virtually nobody can vote, it will make our recounts a lot easier.  Shouldn't take more than a couple months.

At the risk of being attacked by the states rights crowd, the "earlier primary" fiasco now ongoing is enough to make me wish for a national primary date. It would be a nag for the candidates, but would obviate any state's population feeling left out due to a late date primary after the decision seems to have already been made. I find Florida'a actions ridiculous, as I do most of the states rescheduling to an earlier date, and therefor support the DNC action. I do NOT want to have the 2008 election over by the 1st 3 months of 2008. I want a vigorous primary season, and look forward to one of the best and clearest choice general elections in years.

I AGREE. IT WOULD BE A JOKE TO HAVE THE NOMINEES THAT EARLY ON. THEY WOULD BORE THE HELL OUT OF ME JUST AS MUCH AS A SOCCER MATCH OR A BASKETBALL GAME.

I don't know who I'll vote for yet.  Shoot, I have an election in November to worry about.  I know both candidates running to represent the 34th District to Richmond as a State Senator and I don't know which one of them I'll vote for yet.  PLUS< I just interviewed both of them yesterday and need to write their profile pieces for the paper.

TO ME THEY ALL ARE CROOKS....NOWADAYS THEY JUST LOOK OUT TO BE REELECTED, PUT THEIR WET FINGERS TO THE WIND, LIE, CHEAT, ETC. ETC. BUT IT IS THE BEST SYSTEM WE GOT. AND THEY GET THEIR GRUBBY FINGERS ON ANY MONEY THAT SPECIAL INTERESTS GIVES THEM, INCLUDING , THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO LOOK FOR THEIR PEOPLE, THE LABOR MOVEMENT. SINCE I BELONGED TO UNIONS FOR MANY YEARS I SAY THAT LABOR LEADERS ARE AS CROOKED AS POLITICIANS.
