Ok, I'll admit to turning away.

I don't think Lowe gets a day off to break his cold streak.

6-5.

Finny time.

I can't believe that Keibert muffed that one.

That's on Ruiz even though the throw was a bit up the line

Might be a blessing that I was following on Gameday and not actually watching that crap on TV. :hang:

Phillies crossing Finnegan off their reliever potential trade list.

I can’t say we should have won that one. I hope Finny bounces back, shaky command at times tonight.

Do any Nats fans actually like Ruiz? I feel like we’re all in agreement that he’s terrible defensively and underwhelming offensively. Not the catcher of the future that he was tabbed to be.

Currently third amongst qualified catchers in wRC+. Currently on pace for a 2.5 WAR season. Not sure why you would postulate this

That loss was not on Ruiz, blame Finnegan for effing up.

I watched the game on delay.   I was pretty annoyed at Bell taking a one pitch out on that last at bat there, and wondered if it was going to affect Finnegan.   I don't know when they started getting him up, but I'm guessing he wasn't that close to full warm up when Lowe homered.   I don't know if it is on him or Davey, but it was way more important to drag out that at bat a bit, than to swing at the first pitch.

Blaming Ruiz who's actually been pretty good this year is silly. Finnegan is exactly who he was last year. An average closer who flirts with disaster every time he goes out there. It never seems like its just a 1,2,3 inning. There's always multiple hits or a walk. There's always multiple people on base and we're sweating it out. How he wasn't dealt away last year when he actually was on a hot-streak is beyond me? If by some act of god he does that again this year deal his butt away.

this was just a game where limited players showed some of their limitations. Ruiz has never been a strong fielder. Finnegan has been a guy who has lost his ability to pile up lots of Ks so we are going to have to deal with contact, and he can hurt himself if it gets to BBs. There's swing and miss in Wood and Bell's game, and in Bell's case, there's not much else. The team will compete and get into close games. this is just one we lost.

I mean, Ruiz should have caught the throw from Crews. I would support the notion that he's not a franchise catcher. But he is OPSing over .800 from the left side. I'll take that at this price point.

We won a WS with a journeyman at catcher. Not everyone needs to be an all star. We can also make him the DH and backup catcher.
