Something is coming to a head soon. He was not 60 day IL'd. Instead, they put Ferrer on it. I'm guessing they would have preferred to ride with either Cavalli or Ferrer on the 15 day IL and Stras on the 60 if they could have. I expect some sort of suspension at least being on the table if he does not report. It's just a really antagonistic action to force him to show, but at this point his being on the 40 man roster is hurting the team.

They had so much good fortune with long term contracts for guys in their mid-late 30s working out, especially with Max and Jayson Werth.  They also have had good fortune with Desmond, J-Zimm, and Rendon falling apart after leaving here.  At some point, a bad contract was going to happen.  The way they are behaving is revealing their true colors, and no amount of spin from Rizzo fronting them will make them look any better.

With the way the stock market has performed the last couple years they have undoubtedly made a fortune from their investments. So I have zero empathy for them even if their primary business is not quite as profitable as it used to be.  The rich always get richer.

Washington Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg, the MVP of the 2019 World Series who spent his entire career with the franchise, has retired from baseball. News of his retirement has not yet been announced by the Nationals or Strasburg’s agent, but was posted on MLB’s transactions on Saturday.

The decision by Strasburg, 35, to walk away caps a 13-year career that, in many ways, mirrored the rise of the Nationals franchise, from National League East bottom-dweller to World Series champion — and to its current state in the midst of a rebuild.

The retirement, long expected, also brings some clarity on his contract — a seven-year, $245 million deal inked in December 2019, after the team’s World Series triumph. Strasburg, who pitched just 4⅔ innings since undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome in 2021, is expected to be paid the entirety of his contract. He has agreed to defer some of his remaining salary, according to a person familiar with the matter. The extent of those deferrals is not known.

I hope they came to terms that make everyone happy and Stras gets the Zimm treatment for the rest of his life. He earned it.

Sounds like he allowed the team to defer money, which is what they wanted last year. The team probably used the 2019 reunion next weekend as leverage, he didn't want to be left out.

I don't know if it was a matter of leveraging it, but it would not be a 2019 celebration without him. He was the MVP of the World Series.

Correct, it was the other way around. Stras was the biggest piece they needed. They probably wanted him to not get paid and he had all the leverage.
