2019 Cy Young Watch

Not trying to jinx anybody but we have two quality candidates to date in 2019.     Figured I'd start a thread so we can put it all in one place.

I know Anibal Sanchez has won 6 decisions in a row, but cool your jets.

Spare me with the admonitions.    It's too late in the evening.    Be nice to the elderly or you'll be reported to AARP.

Ryu is running away with it so far.

ESPN Cy Young tracker has Doolittle as 3rd in the NL.

Their formula gives 12 bonus points for winning the division.  So according to that algorithm, if we overtake the Braves, we have 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the NL.   Ryu still is going to be tough to beat if he stays healthy.

One of the reasons for starting this thread is some of us aren't payin' attention to the rest of the league.    I wanna get some names in the mix so those of us who are primarily Nats' fans can keep an eye out.     Appreciate the input.

I've added the site you mentioned:

http://www.espn.com/mlb/features/cyyoung

Noticed in 2018 that deGrom was projected as 5th but he won the Cy Young.    I guess they can't account for the bias of the voters.     :couch:

Stras moved up to 2nd and Doo slipped to 4th.      I wouldn't have guessed Doolittle that high up on the list.

That counter should be eliminated - it doesn't reflect current voting at all. Saves and Wins are heavily weighted and don't matter anymore at all. My guess is Max wins if Ryu's ERA regresses, otherwise its Ryu.

Is Ryu scheduled this weekend?

I think wins still matter to some extent.  deGrom was just so much better in every other measurement, that they overlooked his 10-9 record and he plays in NY.  Still, if the Nats won the division last year, I bet he would have won.

I'm sure Doolittle's wins don't count for much, but only 2 of them were cheap blown save wins.  I don't think Doolittle gets any serious consideration, but with 7 4-5 out appearances without allowing an earned run, he's been one of our most valuable players this year.

Friday vs Sanchez it looks like.   That's going to be a tough series to win with Ryu vs Sanchez, Ross vs Kershaw, and Strasburg vs Buehler.   I hope we win one game!

Sanchez may pitch well but needs offensive help he likely won't get

Ross.....just call in a loss and give the players a day off.

I don't think Ross or Sanchez will be Cy Young finalists.

could post this in the trade deadline thread, but Boz says that among Voth, Fedde, and Ross, there may actually be a market among teams with relievers looking for rotation help.  Fedde had a short but good start in his last pre-deadline effort yesterday. It's important that Ross has a decent start Saturday.

None of them are in the Cy Young watch either.

Here's today predictor from ESPN:

Eliminate the 12 point VB (Victory Bonus) for Ryu and Stras is right there.

That's a really good point. Fedde, Voth & Ross are good options for rebuilding teams to throw into their rotations and see what they can get. Hello, San Diego!

he was talking about Dyson as a target.  He thinks Greene is fools gold, Diekman is not better than what we have, and virtually everyone either more expensive in $$ or prospects than the Nats can get, including Yates and Felipe Vazquez.  I wonder if Giles might be a target for starting pitching, especially if Stroman is dealt to the Yanks.  Potential for a 3-way.  Which reminds me, hoping Cope is doing well.

:lmao:

Speaking of Voth, just saw breaking that he had an MRI that revealed shoulder tendinitis and he's shut down for now. Which makes it more risky to trade one of Ross/Fedde, but Voth was the guy of the three I didn't want to move anyways.

I honestly forgot what he changed his name to and didn't want to look it up for a quick post. Corrected.
