I chose the Barves. The Marlins win those WS but fielded some awful teams. Bought a bunch of free agents and then fire saled a year later. That'd be hard to watch.

It's easy to sit and look at the past and say 'I prefer the one that won two WS.' But if you asked someone whether they wanted to have 14 playoff runs in the next 20 years instead of 3 playoff runs, they're going to pretty much always go for the 14 shots.

It's actually quite easy.  It's easy because you as a fan always know where your team stands.  If your team is going to tank, you can move on and enjoy your summer while passively following your team instead of wasting time watching them for an entire six months only to bow out in the first round of every playoff series they will ever play in.

Besides, the team that wins 2 WS while stinking the rest of the time will vacillate between a bunch of drunken Pink Hatters preventing you from getting a decent seat and an empty house with all the energy of a solar cell at the bottom of the ocean.

Take a look at Turner Field's attendance since the last time the Barves lost a World Series.  I'll save you the time - they've been middle of the pack to bottom of the barrel in attendance since 2001.  That's 15 years of fans not caring to watch an ok to great regular season team get bounced in the first round of the playoffs.  You could argue that the location of the Ted and the summer heat and traffic of FATlanta all have a lot to do with that but the lack of post-season success post 2001 with the attendance falling is hard to ignore.

I'll take the Braves. I know they only won the World Series once, but they did make it 5 times during that stretch. I'll take my chances getting to the dance every year, or at least regularly.

Not a baseball town. Even when in the playoffs they did not always sell out those games. Now that they are terrible the attendance has totally plummeted. Don't think they are comparable to DC. Not saying it's a great baseball town yet but different from Atlanta.

Not even really a pro sports town.  Even the Falcons are a marginal interest.

True. NBA has never been supported much even when doing well and hockey was a disaster.

They were top four in attendance for nearly the entire decade of the 90's into the 2000's.

They were one of the top teams in the NL in attendance from 1992 to 2000 before they started their first round playoff exit routine.  They've had trouble with playoff attendance post 2001 because people knew the script - an early exit.  They haven't lost two MLB teams so they do have that going for them...

Braves run because they at least managed to win one. Once you win one its all gravy.

True, and baseball mecca that it is, before '66 they were represented by the mighty Atlanta Crackers of the International League

If it hadn't been $50 I was going to get you an Altanta Crackers shirt when I was at the Ted back in April.  Even managed to talk to not one, but TWO assclowns in redface in a warbonnet.

That's not part of it - we're only considering the results, you don't have to worry about picking the Marlins and then Loria instantly becomes Nats GM.

For this franchise, it has to be the Braves. Sure, I'd love 2 titles over a 20 year span, but this city went 30+ years without baseball and with that came 2 generations of fans lost.

Nobody yet has grown up living and dying with the Nationals. We're getting there, but it takes a long time. The Braves run would give us 20-25 years of that and we would have a much stronger fanbase because of it. That's what I want. I want some crap like San Francisco has where some random ass Tuesday game against a random team is sold out as the norm. Except we won't be wearing winter coats in the middle of summer.

Look at the Wizards. Nobody has lived and died with that team for 30 years. We have only died. That's the result of 30 years of being AT BEST the second worst franchise in the sport. Yeah we'd have two random titles but sustained success is what really matters when you're trying to grow a new fanbase. Plus we have a huge geographical area to the south of us that we could start to conquer with a run like that.
