Just curious, did you consider just replacing the engine? 

Not really. Car was worth about 3k. I think I might have been quoted 4k for the engine. 150k miles on the original transmission.  Had a couple repair jobs in the 1k range already. I think it was on the verge of being a money pit. Car was in not very good cosmetic condition as well

Guy at the shop didn't even try convince me to give him the engine replacement business
