The Griffmen got their 55th victory in their 98th game, 7 - 4, on July 30th in front of about 5,000 disgruntled fans in Detroit. Firpo Marberry got his 6th win, Earl Whitehill got his 4th loss (now 11 - 4)

Nats still 1/2 game out of first, but beginning turn up the electricity.

Water Johnson pitched only two innings. However, the Senators got three runs in the top of the 9th to win it. Johnson did drive in 3 runs on a hmer. Yes, The Big Train could hit.Otherwise, Sam Rice went 3 / 5, raising his average to .315. Nemo Lebold got two hits, and so did Sam Peckinbaugh.

No play-by-play recorded, so I don't know how they git the three runs in the 9th. Sam Rice, Bucky Harris (I saw him manage the team in the early '50s), Muddy Ruel, and Roger Peckinpagh had the other RBIs. Firpo had one K over 7 innings, which says something about how the game has changed.
