The Nats will improve 2nd half 2010 season
« on: June 27, 2010, 05:26:07 pm »
The team is about to turn around their play. The Nats are about to put everything together:

- The hitters are in place. They need to keep hitting after he 4th inning. They will

- The starters are no worse than OK. We know Strasburg. Livo will pitch well 3 out of 4 games. Atilano and Martin will do the same 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4. Lannan, Olsen, and Marquis are hurt. So be it. Lannan and Marquis will recover.

- The relief pitchers have skidded some. They will pull together again.

- The fielding has improved. We can live with errors from Desmond and Zimmerman, because they get to balls that other infielders can't touch. Zimmerman will settle, and Desmond will continue to improve.

- Detwiler will return in August, or before. Wang and J Zimmerman may pitch in September.

- Overall, last years team, and the teams before, had a lot of walking dead. This team is not the Yankees, but they are not far away from being good.

We played pretty well against the white sox and royals, we just didn't hit. We hit well agianst the tigers and orioles but just didn't pitch or play defense.

I think people underestimate the amount of quit in this team- I'm confident in getting a top three pick next year

Is "improve" a term for explosive diarrhea in a white tux?

What makes you think the team will improve. The first 35 games were a fluke. The team is declining as we speak.

They're 13th in UZR.  They finished 26th in UZR last year.  Fielding percentage is exactly the same as it was last year.  Many more balls being reached by the defense with the same amount of errors equals an improving defense.

That's clear, objective, factual data instead of the ramblings of a toolbag who actively overemphasizes the negative just to get a reaction.

that's brutal.

At this point, what the heck, we aren't going to make the playoffs so why not throw the rest of the season in the toilet so we get Rendon.

So that being said, here's what I'd like to see for tuesday's line-up (we owe it to Strasburg to at least try and win his start):

1. Nieves (RF)
2. Dunn (SS)
3. Zimmerman (C)
4. Morgan (1B)
5. Desmond (SS)
6. Gonzales (CF)
7. Willingham (3B)
8. Harris (LF)
9. Pudge (P)

You know what?  I've had just about enough of your crap, as has everyone else.  I've been MORE than fair in giving you rope, but you've insisted on hanging yourself with it.  See you next week.

It's a shame, really because "toolbag" is kind of a funny insult.

Willie Harris gets the only real start? While we have 2 men at shortstop and no second baseman?

Dunn would serve as an obstacle more than anything.

How about Desmond sits on Dunn's shoulders.

Riggleman: "Well, Dunn was a shortstop in high school and college and I feel his leadership will be important at that position.  Pudge is used to the throws in the middle of diamond and has the second strongest arm of anyone in our battery.  nieves needs to play everyday, and its pretty clear he can't catch. I'm just looking for the right platoon partner for Bernie out there. Zim's a gamer, and I think playing Willingham at 3d will improve his value to the team.  We know what kind of defensive outfielder Willie is, and between the two of them (Willie and Hammer) I want to go defense first. Gonzo is just a great athlete, and we'll need Desmond playing SS, too, just to get to balls Dunn can't reach."

It all makes sense when he explains it like that!

1. You gotta believe. (Tug McGraw, NY Mets, 1973. You can look it up.)

2. The Nats have started back up the hill.

3. Anyone who remembers the slogan "Off the floor in '64" knows that this is not a bad team. Or who remembers last season and the season before.

4. A summary: the starters are not ace material, but pitch well enough about three out of four starts. The hitting has been spotty, but the regulars all hit .250 or better. Zimmerman, Dunn, and Willingham have some power. Desmond and Bernadina will get better. Morgan is a .260 hitter. This team can field. They have relief pitchers. When it all works, they can beat anyone in the NL. The AL might be a stronger league...has been since the early '90s...but the Nats can go .500 in the NL. When one element fails -- when they get three hits in a game or the starter gives up four runs in three innings -- it's rough. No surprise.

If you root for the Washington Senators / Nationals, you learn to grit your teeth through some bad baseball.
