Dunn had 3 seasons with better OPS's than last year.

He had a better OPS+ in 2004.

Yeah, it was a good year, but it certainly wasn't his best year.
Dunn had his 2nd best OBP and 2nd best wOBA in his career. If you adjust for park, it was his best offensive season. When you factor that he was a little older in his stint with the Nationals, Eckstein did a good job.

OPS+ is adjusted for park.

Thus, it's not his best season.

Plus, how can you vouch for Eckstein when he told Dunn to take less walks and lower his OBP for a bit more power that would only serve to hurt his OBP, OPS and wOBA?

OPS+ adjusts OPS, not wOBA. Dunn's OBP was better in 09 so his OPS is worth more. Plus it was his best career BA. I don't know if it Eckstein who told him to swing more. I think Dunn just got tired of people telling him he would rather take a walk than go for the RBI. He wanted to cut down on his K's (which didn't happen) and wanted to drive in more runs in his contract year.

Do you disagree with the idea or the result?

The only hitting coach I've ever heard of that demanded that hitters use his approach was Walt Hriniak. The idea that Rick Eckstein could make a player move up or back in the box or expand their strike zone is silly from the onset.

Does anyone remember the beginning of the season when Desmond was talking about the need to get on base by hitting and looking up to Guzman? If that's a refelection of the level of trust players have in the coaches or if the coaches have that view, that's enough for me to want them to coach elsewhere.

Both.

Here's an interesting bit I read on ESPN when reading about Sandburgs future with Chicago. Listach is obviously interviewing for the Brewers today... Well, seems that's not his only destination:

Quote
ESPNChicago.com baseball reporter Bruce Levine -- citing a major-league source -- said pitching coach Larry Rothschild, hitting coach Rudy Jarmillo and bullpen coach Lester Strode will be back. Levine reported that Washington Nationals third-base coach Pat Listach may end up as the Cubs' bench coach or third-base coach with current bench coach Alan Trammell possibly heading to Arizona to join Kirk Gibson.

Someone care to explain to me why Listach would leave the Nats as third base coach to become the Cubs... Third base coach? Bench coach makes sense. But why leave the Nats to do his exact same job with a team as far from the playoffs as the Nats are? I'd be glad to be rid of him personally, but just doesn't seem to add up based on what I know.

May like the people in chicago more.  May think Foli would be the inside option if Riggs were canned.  Who is the Cubs manager?

Isn't there a bench warrant out for his arrest?
