Yeah, that Aroldis Chapman guy just sucks. :hammer:

He would if he were starting opening day for the Nats. Marquis and Chapman just aren't related in terms of the Nats signing and budget, and it's stupid to think so.

Anyway, my proposal when you bring up Livan is that you DL Morse and keep the rest. Demote Mock and put Martin in the bullpen. PH duties can be handled by Livan and Marquis, since Morse can't run and burns a pinch runner.

I now think Mock should be cut for Livan and wait longer to make the bullpen decision and call up Olsen when Mock's next turn comes up.
This......but I was convinced last night that Batista had sealed his fate with the HR. After that he did all right. I am  thinking that English could use some AAA.  A few postings up someone said that Livian should replace Mock on the roster. Then have Olsen take Mocks next turn and drop one reliever. Not a bad thought and a good topic for discussion.
Something I've been thinking about in terms of roster flexibility is to do some sort  of rolling among the fungible fourth and fifth starters we have on the team and in Syracuse. The idea of sending Mock down, bringing up Livo, then doing another shuffle on 5/18 when we need another start from the 5th starter makes sense.  Bring Olsen or Martin at that point, then make the bullpen or bench cut among guys with options (English, maybe A-Gon if he has options) or release some deadwood.

Quote from: DPMOmaha: End of yesterday's game thread
Instead of sending someone down from the bullpen when they call up Livan, send down Mock.  Let the Syracuse rotation get once through and whoever does the best there can get the call when Mock's turn would have come up and then send down a bullpen arm.

Nice call, DPM.  The interesting thing is there is a starter lined up for next weekend who is down in Harrisburg who makes his first start tomorrow.  Lannan Friday, SS Saturday, and Livo Sunday.

[off point warning - And I'll expect a thank you note for Okajima and Bard gifting the Royals a win at the home opener.]

Why?  I'm not a Royals fan.

Kilgore wrote about sending Mock down today and maybe calling up Olsen when they need another starter. He said Riggleman doesn't want to do that because of the potential impact to Mock's confidence.  I'm betting English gets the ticket to the frozen north.

Note that neither Bergmann nor Batista pitched in the last two games. I think that says a lot about their status.

Bergman has to clear wavers if he's sent down.

Shouldn't they have already announced this?  Livan starts tomorrow!

Well that's why no one mentioned that the same is true for Badtista.

Edit: Badtista signed a deal with options. Wow. So he didn't make the team for player retention reasons.

EDIT EDIT: Ben says Walker is out of options. He's staying IMO.

You were the first to suggest that before Zuckerman wrote about it several hours after you posted. Good thinking as it became reality.

In a surprise move, the Nats will keep the bullpen intact and will send down Stammen when they call up Olsen.  Then, over the weekend, when they need another starter, they'll call up another starter.

Yeah they will. But Burnett has been just plain terrible.

I originally put English as being sent down.... I hope this is not the case. I would love to see him play an extended period with us.

I really hope Bergmann is sent down, or cut....  I know he can go several innings and cleanup our really ugly games, but, man....I can't stand watching him pitch..  he is horrible.

I suppose the other possibility is to DFA Bergmann (he's out of options) and shift Stammen back to the bullpen.  Batista can shift to a middle guy role instead of long man.

They need to outright Bergmann.

Not disagreeing but cite a source. I always thought Stammen would go to the bullpen.

Give Stammen another start vs. a team that is not the best offense in baseball. If people judged John Lannan on his starts vs. the Phillies, everyone would say that the team should send him down.

Meanwhile on the Pudge watch, the opposition has scored 51 runs in the 51 innings he's been behind the plate. Sure seems to call a hell of a game.  :stir:

When I heard about the earthquake in China, I thought someone had knocked him on his ass and the seismologists picked it up.
