Why not go after Mark DeRosa? That way you can see if Hernandez pans out, replace Ron Belliard's bat and have a back up for 5 positions.

DeRosa will be a free agent per Cots.  He'll be 35 next season, but seems athletic enough to give you a couple more years.  Judging off his performance in 2008, what he's done this year, and projections for the rest of the year, I'm going to guess there is a decent chance he winds up a Type A free agent in the 2d / SS / 3B group. Because he is multipositional, I am not sure what sort of allocation of his stats last year between OF and IF he'll have.  I am not sure how that figures in to the Elias formaula.  If he is a Type A, then I would not give up a high 2d round draft choice to bring in a short term fix.

By the way, one of the Detroit Tiger message board has come up with a good approximation of the formula for figuring MLB's player rankings.  They have DeRosa as a Type B as of late April, but that was early.  The cut seems to be between 70 and 71 in the points system, and DeRosa was at 67.

DeRosa is a steal as a type B. If he's type A, bleh. The Cubs were fools for trading him. Super utility players at his level are rare and coveted.
