Schroder and Sanches removed from the 40-man Roster

Quote
The Nationals played around with their 40-man roster today, outrighting two pitchers who've both had bullpen stints in the big leagues this season -- Brian Sanches and Chris Schroder. Both will remain with their current team, Class AAA Columbus, but both have been removed from the 40-man roster. This obviously clears some space for a few new additions, likely September call-ups.

Schroder pitched in four games for the Nats this season: five innings, three run.

Sanches had a lengthier (but rockier) tenure, appearing in 12 games. His ERA in those 11 innings (7.36) was his ticket back to the minors.

Good news. That opens up a few possibilities (Speigner, Davis, Montz, etc.).

that is freaked up.  Chris Schroder has done a pretty good job for us.  A 4.46 ERA is pretty decent and he has one of the best sliders in baseball.

He was switching back from Columbus to WSH what like 4 times this season?  He was treated unfairly and hopefully he catches on with another team - or get a fair shot up here.

Sanches, I can understand, but Schroder?  Bullcrap.

Schroder is mediocre. He's had a so-so season with Columbus.

Look @ what he did last year with the big league club ...

2-3, 3.18 ERA, 15/43 BB/K ratio in 45.1 IP.  He was the last cut in spring and I know he got hurt, but deserved better from our front office.  For some reason Colome keeps his job?  Ayala had a job for so long here.  Bullcrap.

Schroder is not any good dude. I finally realized it a few months ago as did the front office.

Let's turn our attention to some of the younger dudes with more potential.

Levale Speigner has thrown 23 consecutive scoreless innings in relief for Columbus.

haha speigner again.  yeah he's having a good stretch, but young?  eh, he turns 28 in a few weeks.  And I saw what he did last season.

All I'm saying is if they are going to give Speigner a chance, they should give Schroder a chance.  He's better than Colome.

Colome will be here for the rest of the season unfortunately. No chance they bring him back next year though.

I used to be a Schroder fan too until this year when it finally dawned on me that he is not that good.

I'm a big Shroder fan too, he was very good for the club last year -- but is obviously not right this year -- whether it's mechanics or injury - he was not the same guy -- at this point it's a numbers game -- he wasn't effective -- so room was cleared for someone else who might be -- it's the business side of baseball -- sometimes it's harsh ... hopefully he can get things together in Columbus so he can come back next year -- in the meantime, I do look forward to seeing some new blood up here ...

I figured a move like this was coming, those were the two guys that could logically come off the 40-man roster without risking losing them (Wagner probably too, but I sense that they still have hope for him).  And I don't think that age should preclude somebody from getting another chance.  Speigner has proved that he deserves another chance; I think if he squanders the opportunity away this time, then you start to overlook him for other younger players, but not yet.

Expect to see Cordero, Hill, Pena or Kearns to be placed on 60 day DL.
Also team probably does not expect Young to play this year. So he'll stay on the restricted list which doesn't count against the 40 man roster
That opens up to 4 slots on the 40 man roster for Sep call ups.

Maybe Mike O'Connor comes back at the end of the season if he's only on the 7-day DL.... Would be nice.

His stats are deserving, but I think someone else should get a chance.

I wouldn't be so sure. The front office could want to shut him down for the year.

No real reason to call up a guy for 2-4 innings at the most when they could call up someone who could pitch all of September.

*cough* Detwiler *cough*, although that could have been a contractual thing.
