Best Place To Have A Homepage?
« on: October 22, 2007, 02:30:22 pm »
I've had MyYahoo for a LONG TIME now and was wondering if anything is better? I like EVERYTHING to be on my homepage, and with the WNFF Toolbar on top, I've been pretty much set, but hey, maybe there's something I don't know about. Plus, I'm a little sick of MyYahoo now. :)

I use Use MyYahoo as well, but also have a PageFlakes icon (icon only, no description) on my Navigation toolbar. You can check it out here: http://www.pageflakes.com/  It's certainly different from what you are used to with MyYahoo but it has some nice options I cant get on my Yahoo start page.

Here's what the top part of my Firefox window looks like...

Questions Regarding Page Flakes:

Ok, Can you get your Yahoo mail on Page Flakes?

Why when I didn't even put in a zipcode, it knows my city?

Can you change the look and not just the content?

You can change the theme (look), as well as the layout, but I'd have to look into whether or not you can have your Yahoo mail on PageFlakes.

As for how it knew your city, it probably used your IP address to help it select the initial city.

It seems like it had an option for Hotmail and GMail and other Yahoo Options.  However I didn't browse the entire list of options to see if it would offer Yahoo Mail as one of its options.

Since you also had Yahoo, I figure you might know.  Or do I have to get a Page Flakes email address.  All my outside world mail goes to my Yahoo account.  I really don't want to change my email address at this point.  It would be too difficult.

Back, in regards to mail, you can configure it for: GMail, Yahoo Mail (Plus only) and any POP3 account

BTW, I only use Yahoo for my start page, I use Gmail all the time

Back again, if you click on Browse All Flakes after clicking the yellow Flake, on the right side of the page is a list of New Flakes, which include Yahoo Mail. I added it to see what it looked like and it looks a LOT different than what the Yahoo Mail page looks like. To fit it in completely, Edit and change the height from 300 to 535 to see everything with no scroll bar.

Thanks for the info, I'll think about it.

When I created my Yahoo acct, it was the best Webmail at the time.  I decided to use it for most of my website registrations and when I go to craft fairs or Card shows and they ask for an email address.  Its also my backup address if I ever get off Comcast  .

Most of my friends know my alternate email address.  Like I said, if I started a new free webmail acct, It would really confuse things a lot.

The Yahoo Mail flake uses your current Yahoo Email address. The only thing I did once it was added was change the height, it already had my Yahoo mail account logged in. I can take a snapshot of it if you like, so you see what it looks like before adding it. In fact, here are 2 shots... The Yahoo Mail Flake open and closed or minimized
