Convert BMP to JPG so can post pic?
« Topic Start: September 19, 2007, 06:04:11 PM »
I have a pic I wanted to post, but it's a BMP format. How do I convert it to an acceptable format for posting here?

Not sure if this is right.

Open the picture.

Save as

Use the drop down arrow below the picture name to JPG.

Click Save.

I think it will work.  Chief may have a better idea but I've saved pictures in both formats that way before.

If you're using Windows 2000 or higher:

  • You can load the picture into Paint and save as jpg.
  • If you'd like a little more control and options, you can download either the Image Viewer or Photo Resizer from FastStone.  They're both freeware.
  • If you want an even fuller featured (and easier to use program) you can download PhotoPlus 6, which is also free (but you have to register).

There are also websites that will resize and, I believe, convert images to other formats, online, so you won't have to install any program at all.

This is really easy to do, it's what I've been doing to convert excel spreadsheets or graphs into something that can be posted in the forum.

If you'll remind me and email me a copy of the picture(s) you want converted, I'll try to do it when I have some down time tonight or tomorrow (most likely tomorrow)

You can try a program called "Easy Graphic Converter" (it's free) http://www.etrusoft.com/graphic-converter/index.htm

Once installed, the steps are:

1) "+ Add" image files
2) Once they are loaded, you click on "Settings" and
3) Choose your "Output format"
4) Change the "output directory" if you want it saved someplace else (it will create the directory for you if it doesn't exist)
5) Change (or remove) the "File name suffix"
6) Click OK to return to the main screen
7) Click "Start" to make the conversion(s)

It gets much easier as you use the program.
