RKF discussed on White Sox Board
« on: September 23, 2007, 05:17:52 pm »
There was a great thread started reminiscing about RFK Stadium, started by a DC area White Sox fan, with pictures.  It spawned a very neat little discussion.

Hope you Nats fans enjoy . . . .

At the last night game ever on Saturday (against the Philadelphia Phillies), a group of Nationals fans repeatedly shouted "WE WANT DALLAS," evoking a memory of Redskins fans, demanding to play their division rival in the NFC Championship game.  Those fans got their wish and won that game that year.

I brought my dad to the last game at RFK and he shocked me by really opening up and telling stories of his childhood in this stadium watching Senator games.  He told some great stories about the first game he went to, a missed homerun ball, and sitting near Richard Nixon at one game.

Not only did we win that game.  We won the Super Bowl that year too.  That was a terrific memory!

You will always treasure that time w/ your dad!  that's terrific that you had that opportunity!

Indeed!  When they closed old Comiskey Park back in 1990, my Dad and I were there and had quite a time reminiscing about our shared history at the old ball park.  Its a unique family bond that our favorite teams create for us.

The first ever game for the expansion Senators was against the White Sox. Opening day, 1961. That one was at Griffith Stadium though.
