Lineup considerations
« Topic Start: August 10, 2021, 12:11:36 PM »
I know Escobar is doing relatively well, but I am intrigued by the prospect of kieboom
Hitting ahead of Soto.  Still gives everyone their playing time.

CF Robles/Stevenson
3B Kieboom
RF Soto
1B Bell
LF Yadi
SS Escobar
2B Garcia
C Barrera/Adams

I would like to see Garcia playing SS every day, but yes, I like the idea of Kieboom hitting in front of Soto.

I want to see Garcia play SS as well, but it appears that hitting at the MLB level is a struggle for him currently, so it makes sense to play him at a less demanding position

I would like to see Kieboom hit well for a month before moving him up in the lineup.  Let the kid get a bit of confidence; he had a good week, that's all.

Longer term, I don't like Escobar at the top of the order because longer term, I expect him to be OBP challenged. I think eventually Kieboom profiles as a #2 - #4 hitter on this club, but for now, I think the priority is getting Kieboom comfortable as an every day player along with Garcia.

There's a reason he was a highly rated prospect. Scouts had him as a middle of the order bat.  Now, he sure as heck didn't show it in the majors for a sustained period of time, so I'd let him ride this out where he is in the order. But - compare him to the assorted guys not named Turner hitting second?  I think he could end up there.  I almost put 2/3/5 rather than 4th.  I tend to think 3rd is less important than 2ndor 4th under the influence of some saber guys, but I am not hard core about it.

Kieboom's hot week is fools gold.

I hate this take and don't understand why a Nationals fan would have it. It's not like he had some 4-5 3 HR game in Coors and we're all going nuts. He had good ABs, took a few walks and showed decent pop. He was a highly touted kid when we drafted him and coming up through the minors, he's still only 23 and for the first time in his young career he has been able to play 10 consecutive games. There is no reason to think his 9/33 with 2 HR week is a fluke, that's just being unnecessarily negative.

Two months left in the season.  No reason to rush to a judgment either way.
