Nationals' "Classics"
« on: June 11, 2007, 10:18:53 pm »
I just watched a Nationals' Classic game on MASN, the 4/17/05 game against the D-Backs. So weird to see Castilla, Vidro, Ayala again. It also brought back the thrill we all felt that season, when we led the NL! But the weirdest thing of all is that we have "Classics" at all....after 2+ seasons!

I just watched that myself - I was part of the third base jumpers that day - a beautiful day in the sun ... great fun ...

Was that the one when Castilla needed just a single to hit for the cycle but Lance Cormier plunked him? I've always wondered whether there was ever any payback on that one. I've heard that players can have long memories for such things.

No that actually took place a couple days earlier at the inaugural game. I don't recall us ever retaliating for that incident.

The payback was in the very game we're talking about, I think! (I watched it too.)  I heard the announcer making reference, right after a hit-by-pitch, that it might have been payback for hitting Castilla two games earlier.

My favorite: Aaron Boone's pennant winning homerun for the Yankees against the red sox, 2003. Boone was gone all 2004 (injury, I think) and resurfaced with the Indians in 2005. The first Red Sox Indians game, Boone's first time up, first pitch, he gets plunked.

That game should be a reminder to us all of how much we need Ayala back!

As they say on TWIB, "how about that!"
