Stubhub is such a rip-off!!!
« on: March 18, 2019, 10:35:01 pm »
Every year I think Stubhub couldn't possibly raise their fees again and every year they prove me wrong.  So this year if you sell two tickets on Stubhub and set the "list" price at $100, the buyer pays $250 for the pair and you'll only get $174 in return.  That's a nice 43.5% profit for Stubhub over what you take home (and a 7% increase over last year's fees).  How is this legal???  Competition really needs to bring this down, but it looks like the Nats make it hard to re-sell tickets using any other service.

Are people using other services?  If so, which ones and how does that work?  I see that you can't transfer tickets to your own email address from My Nationals Tickets since it says that this will void the tickets.  So are people printing out the tickets and then using the barcode on other sites?  I would be happy to use Stubhub if their fees were somewhat realistic, but they are just ridiculous.

I got an email in March 14 that said if you’re a season ticket holder, you can lock in the 10% fee before the increase for the season if you take a survey.

Quote
On April 1, 2019, StubHub is introducing variable sell fees, in which you may see your fees increase by up to 5%. As a Nationals Season Ticket Holder, StubHub would like to offer you a guaranteed 10% sell fee for Instant Download/Transfer tickets listed directly through your Season Ticket Holder account. To lock in the 10% sell fee for the 2019 MLB season, all you need to do is click on the below link and complete a short survey, providing the email address linked to your StubHub account. This offer will expire on Thursday, March 21. If you accept this offer by completing the survey, your guaranteed 10% sell fee will be effective Thursday, March 28. Please note this guaranteed sell fee won’t be applied retrospectively to any past sales.

Thanks bluestreak - that's definitely something I'd like to take advantage of!  Unfortunately I never got that email.  We were very late in getting our plan finalized this year with the Nats so I think I wasn't included on a bunch of emails.  If the link to this survey isn't specific to your plan, would you mind sharing it?

Thanks!  That was a quick and easy survey to fill out (literally took 60 seconds).  Here's the message you get when you are done:

Success!  Your special 10% sell fee for the 2019 season will be effective Thursday, March 28 once your StubHub and Season Ticket accounts are verified.

Stubhub is still a rip-off, and I'm still interested to hear if people use other services, but this definitely helps.

Don’t forget. It’s not all going to StubHub. MLB is getting its cut also. It’s the American way. Lots of people in the middle doing nothing but making money.

When I was in Cincinnati it seemed like everyone sitting around me had used Vivid Seats and gotten a better price. What StubHub has is the biggest number of buyers. I'd like to avoid their fees but other sites don't have the volume. StubHub also has guaranteed protection, they pay a fee to MLB to get new bar codes. The downside is that the Nats use the sales info to figure out how they can squeeze us just a little harder.

As a buyer, I wouldn’t touch a site without a guarantee and I don’t think I’m unique- that gives stub hub a virtual monopoly on that category of sales- no surprise they’re squeezing both sides

You don’t have to print out the tickets. Just save the PDF electronically and go from there.

I also sell on Craigslist but that requires a bit more work and you get some bargain hunters on there. But you save the fees.
