FWIW, my kid just graduated with an Engineering degree. Lots of Asians in the program. To quote the boy... "They just work harder."

I don't know for sure but I wouldn't be surprised if these talented young people were American citizens   ...   just like you.

It's true - for a further illustration, look at high school graduations and see how many of the valedictorians are of Vietnamese descent. It's the old immigrant's-drive-for-success-and-a-piece-of-the-American-Dream...they really do work harder.

Years ago, my sister and her family and my family met at Penn State to see my niece.    Brother-in-law and I walked in a different direction from the ladies.    Brother-in-law makes the observation, "There are a lot of Asians here."     My response was, "There's a lot of Asians in my house."    Sez he, "I never thought about it."     :)

In a lot cases, it's not even the American dream.    Some of these kids just wanna "fit in".

But even this desire merely to 'fit in' is consistent with wanting to get one's feet on the ladder, to better one's long-term circumstances.

I understand where you're comin' from but I don't think it's that "deep" for the children.    Parents?    Sure, they want their kids to "make it".    The kids just wanna be a kid and fit in.    IMHO

Great, now we are outsourcing children's spelling bees. India = America's One-Stop-Shop for all your technical, financial and educational needs.
Jimmy Kimmel Live did this exact joke on May 25, 2016. He had a skit with a kid dressed as Donald Trump, interrupting another kid with Indian heritage. He said, "When I'm Spelling Bee champ, I will make America 'G-R-E-A-T' again."
