HRod the Good: Expos
« on: November 08, 2014, 01:49:45 pm »
I met a guy in my neighborhood wearing an Expos cap. Asked why. Answered that he was an old friend of Henry Rodriguez. They'd grown up together. "HRod??" I asked, astonished. He said, "No. Not a pitcher. An outfielder. Had a couple of good seasons".

Here is Oh Henry, Expos OF:

Stats for the older HRod: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rodrihe02.shtml?redir

Note: part of trades involving Joey Eischen and Miguel Batista

I was mad when Grissom was traded for Roberto Kelly, but then Roberto Kelly got traded for Oh Henry and I became okay with it again.  Him and Vlad represented most of my post-1994 slugging excitement.

I have lived in NYC for a long time; during the Nats' "33 year road trip", I followed, in a neighborly way, whichever New York team was good. Remember well that Roberto Kelly was the young razzle-dazzle star. Many were puzzled when the Yankees traded Kelly for Paul O'Neill...leaving CF to a young player named Bernie Williams. Looking at Kelly's record, I saw that he had been tangled in a trade for or with Tony Tarasco. So many players related (at once or twice remove) to the Nats!

Where was that?    Jackson Heights?    Elmhurst?

Washington Heights...large Dominican population, with leftover Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Greeks, Irish, German Lutherans, German Jews. Also Jordanians. Rumor that Lawrence Fishburne and Gina Torres live down the block, but I've never seen them.

Grissom got traded for both Tarasco and Kelly, if I'm recalling correctly.
