It is not likely that the drain was designed to take a high volume of domestic water...but who knows...

This is probably going to be your biggest issue if you try to use the HVAC drain.  That drain is probably a little pipestem off of the major refuge line to the house so it's good for small amounts of water but not for your washer.  Is that dryer 220?

Maybe just run a hose inside and test its ability to make water disappear.  And when it backs up sewer water all around let them know it was MDS's idea.

That's the drain pipe I'm talking about.

That looks rather small and does not seem like it will support washing machine discharge...even after it is cleaned out...

Washing machines pump water out at a pretty high rate. I don't think a drain with a P trap immediately below it and no vent above it will work.

That's 1.5" pipe? I wonder if you could bust out enough around it to put a Fernco coupling around it, extend it upward, and tie it into a vent... Of course, then you couldn't service the HVAC unit.

That's 3/4 PVC sitting on the floor next to it... it looks like maybe 1.5" iron?

Maybe...just doesn't feel right.  The volume of water could overwhelm it.  He could always rig a Studor vent, but again, without knowing what is in the slab, it would be a huge crap shoot.

Gotta keep resale in mind too...especially if he's considering a move to New Jersey... :couch:

So, the conclusion is you need to bring a plumber in for a half-hour consultation on locations and strategies for the move.
