Jim Callis of Baseball America reports that the Marlins have signed first-round LHP Andrew Heaney to a $2.6 million bonus.Callis and others reported Thursday that Heaney would not sign, but that's obviously changed. The $2.6 million is just below the $2.8 million recommended slot for the No. 9 overall pick. Heaney doesn't have a ton of upside but is viewed as arguably the most MLB-ready arm in the draft, so he'll be on the fast track.
Did the Nats sign any more picks today?
Seems to me that Appel is pretty much screwed. When he's drafted again next year, he'll have to take whatever he's offered or go pitch in independent ball for a year.
