I don't feel quite as annoyed about this as I really should since I love Morse at first, but it was undeniably foolish of the Nats not to have him undergo surgery straight away.

Actually, it was typical for the Nationals to not have him undergo surgery straight away.

This.

even though this image has nothing to do with the topic. I'm thinking more of Marquis/Lannan type stuff

OK, if LaRoche is gone for the remainder of the season what do we do with him next year and more importantly what happens to Morse. He did not hit well when he was playing LF and logically I know that a position change should not affect BA but I am a little concerned.

IF we are really pleased with Morse we eat some of LaRoche's contract and move him.  It is also possible the team thinks it can "sell high" on Morse to a TB, who might value his cheapness, may view his career stats and ability more favorably, and have a need at 1st.  We could get back some hunky looking arm who has no place in their organization.

I'm guessing Upton is traded for prospects, not a guy two years from free agency.  That's been their MO with guys approaching free agency.

Why worry about LaRoche next year? Morse is playing well. The Nats have no depth, so it should be a good thing to have an extra MLB-quality 1B.

A back up at 8 mil? He starts slowly  so he won't get many AB in April - May

8 million isn't that bad in terms of blown contracts.  The Mets had to end up nontendering Ollie Perez and Luis Castillo is in the minors now.

$8 mil is just money, and the Lerners have plenty. It's a rounding error to them. What they lack is a team...baseball players. They lack CF, Desmond can't hit, Espinosa does not yet have a batting eye (hits with authority if he connects), LF is Laynce Nix and hope, C is a strong maybe. With RZ and LaR hurt, they are playing four of five guys who should be utility players or or platoon players.

I was looking up some stuff for another thread and it just hit me how awful LaRoche's contract seems right now.  $7m for this (wasted) year, $8m for next year, and a $10m team option (or $1m buyout) for 2013.

Somewhere in Florida Chien-Ming Wang is asking his agent why they didn't get more money.

Not if attendance continues to fall.  Others here have mentioned this before but I doubt there's a lot of personal money invested into the club outside of whatever was put down for the purchase.
